Rush’s theory:
After Obama’s coronation the idea that there were still some people who didn’t consider him God didn’t enter their minds —”We are the ones we have been waiting for...” Obama Admin assumed all past trouble would be attributed to Bush and America’s past —it would be different now that THEY were here...Obama/Hillary didn’t want those people to die, really, they simply believed their own hype.
MY theory:
The key to Syria was LOTS and lots of guns, and the way to get those w/o Congress was from Khadaffi via Turkey. This op is way, WAY bigger than most realize: it’s guns, ammo, RPG’s, guided anti-aircraft missiles —the works. They fancied that THEY could change the whole face of the Muslim world.
A rescue would bring a MUCH higher level of attention on their whole covert scheme, right b4 the election, and per Desert 1 & Mogadishu there was no guarantee that the rescue would succeed.
The treacherous but “smart” play was to just pull the plug and hope they would all die quietly.
Pretty darn good theory. The spectre of a Black Hawk Down event just before the election would have been an “inconvenient and untimely event” politically speaking. With this bunch politics trumps everything. Of that we can be sure.
Of course, the logical question to ask would be, given the sensitivity of this op, why then would a contingency plan not be in place — especially considering the timeframe during which the ambassador was there (i.e., 9-11)? This was a monumental failure of leadership, perhaps reflecting their misguided hubris that Rush postulates.
