DELAWARE: Markell Signs Gun Bill

The problem is, this is just the beginning.

The passage of this bill has opened up the door to follow-on bills that have moved out of committee.

One of them requires reporting of the loss or theft of a firearm within 7 days of discovering it missing.

Another is a 1-year minimum mandatory jail sentence for those guilty of unlawfully carrying a concealed weapon.

Another bill would raise minimum mandatory jail sentences for convicted felons caught in possession of deadly weapons.

The worst of all, however, is one that allows the seizure of guns. It requires a wide variety of “mental health professionals” to report to police those patients they deem are a danger to themselves or others. A judge’s order would then allow them to seize any guns they possess.

It would require individuals to somehow prove they aren’t dangerous in order to get their guns back.
