Obama believes in magical thinking. If he thinks something, it's true; if he denies something, it never happened. It's all a matter of how it's presented, in his mind.
He thinks that if he changes the names of things, this act changes their reality: no more terrorism, simply man-caused disasters. And Fort Hood was "workplace violence."
His sympathies are with the Muslims, no matter what, and he thinks that if he just goes on denying the reality of Muslim violence and terrorism, it will all go away.
He really thinks that if there is no retaliation for anything, ranging from attacks on US facilities abroad to individual terrorist attacks here (the Fort Hood Muslim terrorist, Major Hassan, still hasn't come to trial), everything will be wonderful and the Muslims will love us and know that we're on their side.
And he has given such a message of weakness and passivity (or even sympathy with terrorist aims) that, as you say, we are being set up for something really, really bad very soon.
I completely agree. That's why, to him, his opponents don't just disagree with him, they are "liars."
It's scary for America. He really thinks his policy toward Iran, a total failure for the last 5 years, will work. Which means we will soon have a nuclear Iran.
He really thinks he can just withdraw American troops from Iraq and Afghanistan with no consequences. But there will be big time consequences and the squander of much precious US blood and resources.
