The idea behind Disco, as explained to me by a Disco Dolly of the era, was that a girl went out, found a good looking guy whose dance moves indicated he would be a good sex partner, invited him home, gave him the thrill of his life, and threw him out on the street in the morning. It was an era when girls acted the way guys had always acted, and it was an early version of today’s “hookups”.

This kind of promiscuity was also practiced by homosexual men. They would do much the same thing and have as many partners as they wished in the course of an evening. Of course there was this strange disease that was beginning to kill them off, but no one really knew what that was all about yet. It shouldn’t be a surprise that Disco had a whole gay side to it, and these guys epitomized it at the time. It hit #6 this week.
