The thing was that many women did not see this as adultery as much as a failing marriage, and true love. World of difference.

To start with, they accept the idea that some marriages just don’t work out, and as long as it is an amicable split, it is okay.

But in this case, he obviously loves this woman so much that he went all the way to Argentina to get her. That makes it into a “romantic” relationship, that many women can forgive. As long as he marries her, and promptly.

It is also a study in contrasts, as the woman running against him was pretty odious, deceitful, and made the foolish mistake of thinking early in the campaign that she was so far ahead she could blurt out what she really thought, that was both radical leftist and stupid. Pardon the redundancy.

Good point. This last election (Sanford) has me shaking my head and thinking: “Anyone else notice how bad the democRATs lose when the Chicago “Get out the Vote” and cheat push is not involved?”

Same thing prior to the election.
