For all their squabbling over fealty to union bosses and ethical lapses real or perceived, the two candidates who could succeed Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa agree on this: City Hall is in trouble.

“Government in Los Angeles is broken. Paralysis rules,” says Wendy Greuel, the city controller who could become the first woman to hold the job. To her rival, Councilman Eric Garcetti, “It’s not just our sidewalks that are broken, it’s the system.”

Bankrupt Stockton and other California cities are in worse shape but Los Angeles is in “a perilous fiscal state,” warns Austin Beutner, a former investment banker and deputy mayor who dropped out of the race last year.

Spending is projected to outpace revenue for years, and rising pension and retiree health care bills threaten money that could go to libraries, tree-trimming and street repairs. Villaraigosa, who exits July 1 after an uneven eight-year run, has urged his successor to try to block a 5.5 percent pay increase for civilian employees while looking warily at future salary jumps

His failures as mayor will go down the memory - but the Democrat dominated media will praise and support him in whatever his next venture may be.

Now it is ‘Rat versus ‘Rat.

Next step is to demand that Congress bail L.A. out.

Yup.

Saw this sort of thing coming back in the 90s, pulled the eject handle way back then and moved away. :D

"Spending is projected to outpace revenue for years, and rising pension and retiree health care bills threaten money that could go to libraries, tree-trimming and street repairs"

Ironically the people who would work in libraries, trim trees and repair streets will all be union members with fat juicy "untouchable" pensions.

Liberals never seem to understand that public unions ARE the problem.

Yes, their answer will be "raise taxes", but from whom?

That turnip has no more blood to give.

You mean a city that allows itself to be lorded over by unions, bloated public ‘servants’ and illegals is in financial straights? Oh, my, who would have ever imagined?

Absolutely! Now that Tony Villa, I love how people like him and Jerry Rivers change their names to highlight ethnicity, has proven he can run Los Angeles into the ground the Demoncrats will want to run him for president.

Now you know the only way to fix this is to invite some more hard working tax paying illegals in. Snort
