Wall of ice rises out of lake and destroys homes in Canada

A wall of ice that was pushed out of a lake and across snow-covered ground by strong winds has destroyed 12 homes and damaged 15.

The 9m (30ft) high slab took about ten minutes to rise up out of the water and slide across the beach before crashing into properties near the shoreline of Dauphin Lake in Canada.

Resident Doug David described how it pushed furniture around and threw his bath into the hallway when it ploughed through his two-storey home, propelled by 55mph gusts in Ochre Beach, Manitoba.

Official Clayton Watts told the Winnipeg Free Press: ‘We had people barbecuing on their decks. They turned around to go inside to get something, they came back out and their decks were ripping apart.

‘It was like a freight train coming through, they say.’

Winds of up to 40mph led to a similar but less powerful ice wall rising out of Mille Lacs Lake, about 960km (600 miles) to the south in Minnesota, US.

Resident Darla Johnson captured footage of it piled up in heaps after slamming into homes at Izaty’s Resort.

She told CBS: ‘You could hear it right through the doors, that’s what alerted us to all of it.

‘And we turned around and you could just see it. It’s creepy because it starts coming towards you and you’re like: “What is that!”‘

Emergency teams have been shifting the ice with heavy machinery.

“...knowing the government will bail them when a hurricane tears it apart.”

Working real well so far with the Hurricane Sandy aftermath residents’ homes. At 15-17ft below sea level, NOLA wasn’t a surprise.

I can see how something like this would bury mammoths and such creatures as have been found whole in the tundra.

what happens is that a layer of ice freezes and then the wind pushes it, after a while it gets a lot of momentum, and as it hits the shore it just does not stop as tons and tons of it keep pushing from behind. (Water is very heavy)

There are so cool videos of it happening on youtube with some much thinner layers of ice (< 1 inch) growing ice structures on the shore as the wind pushes more an more.

people who just say “I do not believe” it can happen should really think about what they just said. “Belief” in global warming is what guides libtards. Proof and scientific explanation trump “belief”.

Yup, I’m a big believer in proof and science (and what my eyes tell me!). :-)

Stupid people, if they aren’t having ice problems someone is stealing their maple syrup. That’s what they get for talking funny!

It’s happening in Minnesota as well, and just as fast.

Global warming melted the ice and caused this disaster! We’re all gonna DIE!

Your right about too close to the waters edge. My folks had a cabin on Mullet Lake (Michigan) it was either the largest inland lake or the second largest..(depended on weather you took into consideration surface area, or total water depth plus surface water) Anyway, the lake would freeze solid in the winter and houses had been moved from our side of the lake across to Topneebee without fear of breaking through...Every year when the lake started to thaw, due to the water direction and wind currents it always seem to end up on the shore across from us...

One year my parents said you could hear the ice cracking for several days. Then all of a sudden the lake seem to be alive and the ice packs moved at the same time. This one year it moved to our side of the lake...It packed up the 15 feet from the waters edge to the top of the lawn. (Steps to go down to the water) and some ended up on the front lawn...The house sat back enough from the edge of the drop so it didn't come near the house, but mom said it was the most amazing thing she ever say...it was like the lake and ice were living things...
