Grassley: Baucus Retiring Because He’s ‘Fed Up’ With Obamacare
National Review ^ | 5/10/2013 | Eliana Johnson

Posted on 05/12/2013 2:11:15 PM PDT by autumnraine

Democratic senator Max Baucus is retiring because he is “fed up” with the Affordable Care Act, according to his Republican colleague Chuck Grassley. Speaking at Friday night’s Lincoln Day dinner in Iowa, Grassley told the audience the Montana senator is leaving office ”because he’s so fed up with the possibility of the implementation of Obamacare being a train wreck.”

Baucus, the chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, played a key role in writing the 2010 law.

Grassley said that dissatisfaction with the health-care bill exists across party lines, describing a “bipartisan coalition in Washington” that considers the implementation of the law a disaster. “It’s a shame that a trainwreck even left the station a couple years ago,” he added, referring to Baucus’s now-infamous statement of frustration.

The 79-year-old Iowa senator also used his remarks to inveigh against the Gang of Eight’s immigration bill. A member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Grassley has been one of the most outspoken opponents of the legislation. Referring to the 1986 immigration act signed into law by President Reagan, which legalized millions of illegal immigrants, he said, ”I want you to know that we screwed up in 1986.”

He concluded, “Today, we have 11 million people who came into our country illegally. The lesson learned: You reward illegality, you get more of it.”

It would be nice if Baucus would man up and push for its repeal before he leaves, but I’m not going to hold my breath.

Why did he vote for a 2000-page bill without reading it?

Typical lib. Creating a train wreck and then walking away from it. Eventually, he’ll move on to a new train wreck...

Maybe Baucus can team up with Barney Frank and start up their own Obamacare Finance Reform consulting firm and help fix the messes they created with their landmark accomplishments, both.

This is pretty sad. Creating a wreck and then walking away without fixing it is the act of a coward. I would like to see Democrats and Republicans take appropriate action to get rid of this horrible law. I would like to see the Congress start reading and explaining laws BEFORE they are passed, even if the laws take up 800 or more pages to read.

What scum we have representing us, especially the shameless Democrats like Pelosi who said something to the effect “Let’s pass laws and then find out what they contain as they are enforced.” This is the new policy is it not?

This is probably right, inadvertently..

It has been deemed passe to read a piece of legislation prior to voting on it. :)

Libs always create messes and then walk away from them. They supported Stalin, Mao and Ho Chi Min and when that didn’t exactly work out, they moved on to the Sandinistas and Chavez. Sometimes they even blame Republicans when their schemes do not work out.

David Horowitz is brilliant on this subject.

A lot of California Liberals are leaving California because they are 'fed up' with California, too.

So, how does that help the situation? All it does is pollute the states where they move and further infest. It doesn't solve the California problem and it makes the problems worse in the places they've move to.

My guess is Baucus has suddenly realized Montana streets have lampposts, and he doesn't want to decorate one. So he is exiting stage left before the train goes off the tracks and before the proletariat of Montana realize just who to "thank" for their awful misery.

He may be a Democrat, but he has an instinct for self-preservation. If he's smart, he'll find a nice, very isolated farm up in Blaine Country, dye his hair and grow a large moustache and lose 50 pounds, quietly go off the grid, and change his name.

Judas Baucus got his payment. He’s only sorry he didn’t hold out for more.

Baucus, like every other liberal, will never say Obamacare is a bad law, but that it was not implemented by the right people and that it did not have enough funding.

When Obama’s people hear the word Obamacare, they think “FREE” healthcare. Once they discover how much they have to pay for it, and how much more difficult it is to get healthcare, there will be political consequences galore. The cowards want to jump ship early, and beat the rush.
