Ever wondered where those hateful, discriminatory tweets on Twitter were coming from?
A group of researchers from the Floating Sheep project who also mapped racist tweets surrounding President Barack Obama's re-election have geotagged racist, homophobic and ableist (directed at disabled people) tweets in the United States and plotted them on an interactive map.
Students at Humboldt State University in Arcata, Calif., looked up all the geotagged tweets in North America between June 2012 and April 2013, manually reading and coding the sentiment of each tweet to determine if the given word was used in a positive, negative or neutral way in a project called the "Geography of Hate."

“Hate”, as the Humboldt left defines it.
I’d like to see a map of the hateful Sarah Palin tweets.
I’d like to see the “moonbat/asshat” mapo...so I’d know areas to avoid when traveling.
Put me down as a TRUE hater of Communism and liberals.
The red spots in Idaho are centered on Heyburn (population 3,000) and a town (Malad? population 2,000) so small it wasn’t even labeled.
I would guess these tweets centered on the recent debates on the acceptance of gays in the LDS church and in the Boy Scouts. The map is skewed because this area has few liberals to balance out conservative and LDS tweeters. There’s a reason the area is locally referred to as “North Utah”.
I’m waiting for the ‘knockdown game’ heat map.
Looks like some are coming from Mexico, too. Maybe this will convince them to control the border.
As I show in the blog today. . .
Great cartoon!
odd; FReepers k, c & d said the same thing...
