You're damned right it was, and I'm sick of hearing about it. It's 150 years later, and no black person alive has been remotedly affected by slavery. Guilt? I have zero.

And we write insipid, cliché riddled, fact-starved, self-loathing editorials, while patting ourselves on the back for being so much more enlightened than our similarly-tinted inferiors who don't share our obsession with race.

Well, Miss Cutaia, I think the oodles of white guilt you show more than makes up for the awesomeness of you.

Good call. White guilt is just some kind of personal camouflage for underperformance and an offensive personality. As in, landshark. Female landshark. Female landshark with enough of an attitude, that she runs down everyone in the country who isn't a minority.

This must be her way of begging for a bone from all the NAACP and ACLU lawyers who have work.

I'd like to ask her what she thinks of anti-white racism from blacks. I'd tell her how my sister-in-law had to learn to fight in junior high to defend herself from gangs of black girls. I'd describe how my elderly father, who was getting a haircut from his barber, was told to get his white a## back to his neighborhood. I'd tell her about the black woman who called me a white bitch when her kid slammed his car door into my car.

No doubt she'd say I'm a Southern white who deserves it.

Actually, I am white and I HAVE been stopped on the street for an ID check. And I've been a passenger in a car that was pulled over for no good reason. And being white did not mean that someone did my homework for me, or took my school exams for me, or gave me A's just because I was white. Being white did not mean that I did not have to compete for jobs with other applicants. Being white does not exempt me from working for a living or from paying taxes.

I don't know anyone who says there is no racism in this country, but I do know that all racists aren't white, I do know that this country makes more accommodation for minorities and newcomers than most countries in the world, and certainly more than virtually any non-white countries.

Actually, even back in the 50's, about 35-40% of blacks owned their own homes.

And why have so many Asians - recent arrivals speaking very different languages - passed by Blacks academically? Because they work at it instead of whining and playing the race card. The author of this article thinks she is a friend to blacks, but she is their arch-enemy.

Good call, and proof of your thesis is the info turned up by scholars of 18th-century America who found a fair proportion of the white population arriving as a) convict labor, b) long-term indentures (seven-10 years) and c) short-term indentures (2-3 years) who bargained for indentures in partial payment of their cost of passage.

People who paid their own way or who took short indentures did well and became Jefferson's and Jackson's yeoman farmers who amazed English visitors to America after the War of 1812 with their industry, prolixity, and prosperity.

The convicts and long-term indentures usually did not do well, the latter often getting worked out and physically broken in health before the end of their indentures. These two classes of immigrants had it the worst of anyone arriving in North America (the Caribbean and South America were another thing completely), faring even worse than chattel slaves, whom owners had a pecuniary interest in keeping alive and keeping out of the most dangerous and wearing labor (land clearance: exhausting labor w/ a high accident rate). Few convicts and long-term indentees can show successful after-careers (shown on tax and land records 10-15 years later); many returned to Europe, broken and exhausted, or died in the New World on the charity rolls as charges on the community.
