“I can tell you that … I am not aware of anyone here knowing about it.”

Got to love the beginning of that statement, "“I can tell you that …", doesn't really mean it's true, but I can tell you that, LOLOL.

Why not just state " I am not aware of anyone here knowing about it." without a qualifier?

Maybe I'm too cynical, but it sure sounds like he left himself a legalese/weaselese out.

The weasel words are even worse than you have so aptly stated. He said "I WAS not aware..." which might mean that he is aware now...even if he's not admitting it.

Those of us who were around during the Clinton administration got very good at spotting the weasel words.
