The city of Keene, New Hampshire, is suing a group of do-gooders for allegedly topping off parking meters of strangers. The group, which calls itself "Robin Hood and his Merry Men," likes to leave notes on the windshields of cars that are in danger of getting a ticket due to an expired meter, according to the Union Leader.

My city got rid of parking meters 15 years ago.

Milwaukee solved the problem by making a 2 hour meter a pure 2 hour zone whether or not the meter was paid. Car isn’t moved in 1:59:59, you’re getting a ticket even if the meter is plugged.

...and they use GPS and computer terminals to know which cars are about to expire so they can write tickets seconds after the meter expires or the time limit passes.

One day, I was downtown and parked at a meter in a pay until 6 p.m. zone at 5:50. Saw the parking checker, who stopped and said “Don’t bother with the meter, it’s just ten minutes.” He drove around the corner and I plugged the meter — just in case.

My point is that the city should be satisfied with its loot from the meters and the savings of not having to fund the ticket writers.

If the good samaritans don’t pay the meter the meter runs out and a ticket can be issued ... tickets make for more revenue then what the meter can produce.

Right. That’s what I was saying. Sure, they make more money, but there is no LAW that says who must put money in the meter.

They are greedy and outside of the law on this issue.

If Milwaukee paid the same attention to general crime that it pays to parking enforcement, it’d be the safest town in America.

Oh, just BRING IT. This is as complete a loser of a case as I’ve seen in years. The city will get laughed out of court.

Feeding the meters I can kinda understand, though in some places it has been illegal for a long time.

I don’t understand why they are bothering the enforcement personnel.

Remember, the law makers make the laws. In many cities the law is that anyone feeding a parking meter not associated with their own parked car is committing a crime.

As a rookie cop walking a beat back in the day, I use to carry a pocket full of nickels to feed the meters ... use to drive my TO bonkers. When downtown, I still carry change to feed the meters whenever I see one about to expire ... old habits are hard to break.

I take the “broken window” theory on Tyranny. Crush it, deride it, belittle those who perpetrate small Tyranny wherever it is found. That includes cops, judges, meter maids and city councilmen. These small Tyrannies encourage big tyranny.

Damn. No I get audited.

Why is it illegal to help someone out of a jam and keep them from being lawbreakers?

ATTENTION: It is ILLEGAL to help keep people from breaking the law!

Good man.

As for me, I’d claim loudly that it was my car, indeed! Mankind is my brother, my sister, my mother, myself!!! It is my car!

How can liberals deny that? LOL!

Not a problem as long as you are not observed feeding more than one meter. LOL!

The meter maid must be an idiot if he can’t out think the robinhoods.

LOL! If I ever did that, which I would not, believing in personal responsibility, but if I did, and was observed, I’d claim All Mankind as my brethren.

Let the hypocrites prove otherwise .
