President Obama announced Wednesday night that the acting commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service had been ousted after disclosures that the agency gave special scrutiny to conservative groups. Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr., meanwhile, warned top I.R.S. officials that a Justice Department inquiry would examine any false statements to see if they constituted a crime. Attorney General on the I.R.S.

Speaking in the White House’s formal East Room, Mr. Obama said Treasury Secretary Jacob J. Lew had asked for and accepted the resignation of the acting commissioner, Steven Miller, who as deputy commissioner was aware of the agency’s efforts to demand more information from conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status in early 2012.

“Americans have a right to be angry about it, and I’m angry about it,” Mr. Obama said. “It should not matter what political stripe you’re from. The fact of the matter is the I.R.S. has to operate with absolute integrity.”

Mr. Miller, who told agency employees that he would leave the administration in early June, is scheduled to testify Friday before the House Ways and Means Committee in the first of a series of hearings on the I.R.S. activities.

The president acted as his administration broadly stepped up pressure on the I.R.S. — and sought to insulate itself from the outcry over the agency’s conduct. Mr. Obama spoke to reporters after an Oval Office meeting with Mr. Lew and his deputy, Neil Wolin, who will be responsible for carrying out the president’s orders to install safeguards to prevent a similar effort.

When bad news is good news.
When good news is bad news
When bad news is bad news.
When Obama should soon be stuck with a fork.
He's almost done.

“he is resigning in early june one day before his scheduled retirement”

This just shows how ridiculous this whole thing is. He was going to be gone shortly anyways.

They’re kidding right? What do they think the country is just full of idiots like Joy Behar?

This and the other scandals aren’t going away, they will all end up being hung around Obama’s neck. Because they should be.

I heard he hasn't left and won't leave until a replacement is appointed. This is a 'firing' where he doesn't even really lose his job. Just like everything else with Obama it's just a pile of BS.

"The country" elected him twice. I'd say they have every right to think so.

One would think we had cleared all his pawns off the board by now but it seems like there’s always one more ready to fall for his king. Stupid pawns.

Don’t feel bad for him! In exchange for his silence, he’s going to get a cushy VP job from some huge Obama donor.

Miller’s boss is the Secretary of the Treasury, Jack Lew. Yes, he should resign, without being asked. But ultimately Zero is accountable. The targets have been complaining for a long time about the harassment they were subjected to, and while Zero now calls the conduct “inexcusable” and says that he “will not tolerate this kind of behavior in any agency” - the fact is he did tolerate it and he did excuse it, while it served his purposes in getting reelected and until it could no longer be kept under wraps.

Accepting the resignation of an interim employee within days of the planned end of his employment is an absolute farce. The threat of criminal action should open a few mouths as to where the orders really came from. This administration has no credibility remaining, as if it ever had some to any thinking, informed person.
