Students for Life to Protest Boston College's Pro-Abortion Commencement Speaker

BOSTON, May 16, 2013 /Christian Newswire/ -- On Monday, May 20th, Students for Life of America (SFLA) and other local and national pro-life organizations will host a prayer vigil and public witness (notatbc.com/?page_id=172) outside the Boston College graduation ceremony to protest Ireland's 1st pro-abortion Prime Minister giving the commencement address and receiving an honorary degree at the Catholic institution. SFLA will gather together to stand up for women, show the value and worth of children in the womb, and voice support for keeping Ireland abortion-free.

Event Details:

When: Monday, May 20th

8am - Prayer Vigil and Public Witness

9am - Press Conference

Where: Boston College, Chestnut Hill, MA -- Corner of Beacon Street and Reservoir Avenue

"The fact that Boston College is honoring the man who is pushing an abortion bill that will lead to the mass death of preborn Irish children and the harm of countless women and families is unconscionable," said SFLA President Kristan Hawkins. "Thousands of people from across the globe have taken action on our website NotAtBC.com to voice their outrage over the decision and send messages of support to Cardinal Sean O'Malley, who has been under attack by pro-abortion forces for boycotting the event. It's shameful that BC's President, Rev. William Leahy, has not rescinded the invitation to Prime Minister Enda Kenny, despite the outcry from the public and Catholic leaders. If Boston College won't stand for the preborn at its graduation ceremonies, we will."

PM Kenny and his governing party Fine Gael have gone against their election promises and introduced legislation that would legalize abortion in Ireland under the guise of preventing the suicide of pregnant women. As there is no gestational age limit to the measure, it would mean abortion on demand, by threat of suicide, through all nine months of pregnancy. In addition, Catholic hospitals would be forced to comply with the proposed law as it does not contain conscience clause protections for their health care workers.

The Catholic Church in Ireland has denounced the measure and called upon the Irish people to lobby their elected representatives to oppose it. Cardinal Sean Brady, the Primate of Ireland, said the bill, if approved, would "make the direct and intentional killing of unborn children lawful in Ireland." In addition, Kenny has threatened to expel pro-life Catholics from his party if they refuse to vote for the measure.

NotAtBC.com is a website sponsored by a coalition of the nation's leading pro-life organizations.

Apparently the website NotAtBC.com has been set up for this prayer/protest of Boston College.

Note that Prime Minister Kenny will expel Catholics from his party if they refuse to vote for his Pro-Abortion law!!!

I would have a lot more respect for Cardinal O’Malley if he would join this protest instead of just sitting out the graduation.

I was so disappointed in him when he allowed the Cathedral of the Holy Cross to be used as an Obamafest, supposedly to honor the victims of the Boston Bombings, especially since the victims had their OWN funerals and Memorial Services elsewhere.

He is showing some spine by boycotting the graduation, and I appreciate that, but I’d like to see more.

They do not state anything about a protest or carrying pictures of aborted babies.

However, they do give a contact number.

The Pro Life Action League is one of the groups involved in this protest...

Him concelebrating Teddy Kennedy's funeral didn't disappoint you? After that, nothing this man does can disappoint me. I'm just glad he's sitting out the graduation.

” Both of my “Catholic” alma maters, BC and Notre Dame, have a lot to answer for..........”

I’m a BC grad, and years earlier, my dad was a professor at Notre Dame. They used to be two of the most conservative schools around. These days, neither one is worth a bucket of warm spit.

Boston College has recently earned the monicker of “Fredo College”, a comparison to the dimwitted brother of Michael Corleone. BC actually stands for “Bookie College” or “Backup College”. Because of their gambling scandals, they supposedly were going to add a major in turf accountancy.

I’m lucky that I attended Notre Dame from 1972 to 1976 when it was still a wonderful Catholic college. I continue to love ND but absolutely despise its President (who is a college classmate of mine), its General Counsel (who arranged to have the late great pro-life Fr. Norman Weslin roughed up, arrested and persecuted along with the other members of the ND88), and its “Life Fellows” and “Board of Trustees”.

does Cardinal O’Malley have the power to defrock Leahy? Who owns BC? Very sick and tired of “Catholic” colleges doing this The cost of wanting to be liked is too high.

Guess who Notre Dame has as their commencement speaker?

Cardinal Dolan

Guess what Cardinal Dolan just stated?

Governor Cuomo is not a Catholic in good standing since he is a pro-abortion politician...

I am about to post this article

Oops! The article I was going to post has a very confusing title. Cardinal Dolan backtracked on saying that Governor Cuomo was not in good standing with the Catholic Church because of his positions on abortion and gay marriage.

Confusing title of LifeSiteNews.com article that misled me:

Card. Dolan ‘would not suggest’ pro-abort Gov. Cuomo not a Catholic ‘in good standing’: archdiocese

The pro-life and pro-abort demonstrations were very small, reports a family member who was at the commencement yesterday. They were mingling together and having a good time! What a difference from NYC where we yell our heads off at each other.

The one time I demonstrated in Massachusetts, at a Hillary book signing on Martha’s Vineyard, the police failed to keep the pro-Hillarys out of our demonstration. I feel strongly that it is their responsibility to do so, since muddling the point of a protest is tantamount to abrogating the First Amendment. Doctor Raoul had to send me to a gift shop to let me calm down.

I hope this is not what happened in Boston yesterday.
