Valley Tea Party recalls IRS scrutiny

STAUNTON — The topics of immigration and taxation were a part of Thursday’s Shenandoah Valley Tea Party Patriots meeting, but so was the burgeoning IRS scandal that had touched the local group’s application for federal nonprofit status.

Members gathered at the Staunton VFW Post on Thursday night for a regular meeting. While they were anxious to talk about immigration reform, they also wanted to know what the FBI will learn as it investigates the IRS targeting of conservative organizations. The Shenandoah Valley Tea Party Patriots needed 26 months and 235 hours of volunteer labor to answer all the IRS questions and obtain 501(c)4 status.

“We just want to know the truth. We would like the truth,’’ said C.W. Barrett, a tea party member from Waynesboro. Barrett said all organizations should be treated impartially by government agencies when they apply for designations.

Chuck Haggard of Augusta County, a Shenandoah Valley Tea Party Patriot, said it was evident the IRS had an agenda. He helped compile the 892 pages of documents needed to answer all the IRS questions.

“We were not happy,’’ Haggard recalls. “We knew we were being harassed.”

Haggard said mere resignations of IRS officials such as thatWednesday of acting IRS Commissioner Stephen Miller are not enough. “I would like to see some people go to jail. This was an extraordinary abuse of power.”

Since when are government bureaucrats responsible for their actions unless they commit an outright criminal act?

Even insider trading is deemed lawful for them while you and I could go to jail for doing the same.

I just sent an email to Bob Goodlatte, asking him to pass it on to Ways & Means. The ONLY way we are going to bust this wide open is to begin criminal proceedings. Once the Howard Hunts of the world are threatened with jail time, they will begin to squeal.

Ben from Wxtx? On Greta. He’s said they’ve been on top of this have four names that coincide with same names that LEO has. Have interviewed the four who said they were following the instruction of their supervisor.

Names are being passed to congressional committee

Need to find this material and interview o Reilly had with Vander slouth on web.

Yes somebody(S) need to go to jail. The IRS needs to be destroyed (that is likely a pipe dream).

The FBI investigate? They are part of DOJ. What the hell does anyone think they are going to do that is lawful and objective? This is the same FBI, BATF, OSHA, EPA and IRS that collectively terrorized the Houston Tea Party and King Street Patriots people in Houston.

They are all in collusion taking orders from the same head. Who is going to investigate them?

I have a stupid question though. Why is it so important to have this tax exemption status when the cash flow for this designation is less than $25k per year. Is the deduction for the small amounts coming in from just folks who are trying to do something that necessary?

Tarrant County Texas Tea Party was hit by Obama’s jackboots at the IRS too. They are being represented by Jay’s group.

The IRS wants conservative donor lists. What about making FOIA requests for a list of names of bureaucrats and workers at the IRS, EPA, CMS and all the other fascistic organizations?
These people are not secret agents and the public has a right to know who they are. If we are denied the request, the public should ask why PUBLIC servants are accorded secrecy? Besides, they know everything about us, so why can’t we know their names. Perhaps, I don’t want to engage in business transactions with these people, or I don’t want my kid to play with their kids. In WI, we have verify the recall which is a gold mine because it has allowed conservatives to identify Leftists. We know that over 80% of IRS employes are 0bama supporters. Wouldn’t it be great to identify and avoid these individuals? Even better, the FOIA requests would tie up the IRS; this could be a form of civil disobedience and a Cloward-Piven attack on the IRS.

Not a stupid question at all! I suspect it's not about taxes at all, but more about the rules that pertain to the organization with that status. For example, donors need not be publicized - thus, helping fundraising. It facilitates lobbying on causes as well. I was curious like you, and am just perusing the definitions.

Actually, there are 28 different 501(c) types of organizations. I recommend spending a few minutes browsing about them... quite educational.

I suspected that but was trying to elicit opinions such as yours. It may also have something to do with some liability protection or insurance for the group to attempt to do more than assemble.

I have been watching Youtube collections of stuff from the talking heads and interviews today. I am cementing my earlier view... this is a massive smoke screen to hide something even bigger from attention. A lose the battle win the war tactic.

1. This is an emotive issue sure to capture the public attention
2. Congress must act with outrage
3. The media is being far too cooperative
4. Miller is way too smug. He is either unbelievably arrogant or intentionally acting bizarre. Just plain bizarre. He makes outrageous statements and contradictions of the IG report adn even himself. Classic diversion? The guy going out anyway who was not even the director when all this happened but awfully close to the action.
5. Why the big orchestration of the “leak” on Friday at the Bar Association meeting by Lois Lerner? To what purpose?
6. IRS says we gave poor customer service, we made mistakes, we acted inappropriately, we apologise? Strange. And then ostoner says the acts are alleged and if they are true we are will take “appropriate” action?

Place names made me homesick. The best part of my growing up years were spent in Staunton. The best people on the earth live around there.
