Skip to comments.Cincinnati IRS employees 'surprised' at furor (it all comes from the top)
Posted on 05/18/2013 7:01:14 AM PDT by RoosterRedux
More utter cluelessness from IRS employees, plus, as a bonus, some "Good German" excuses for why the targeting of conservative groups happened.
And not one of them raised an alarm? Not one of them even
As could be expected, the folks in the determinations unit on Main Street have had trouble concentrating this week. Number crunchers, whose work is nonpolitical, don't necessarily enjoy the spotlight, especially when the media and the public assume they're engaged in partisan villainy.
"We're not political,'' said one determinations staffer in khakis as he left work late Tuesday afternoon. "We people on the local level are doing what we are supposed to do. . . . That's why there are so many people here who are flustered. Everything comes from the top. We don't have any authority to make those decisions without someone signing off on them. There has to be a directive [emphasis added]."

I’m not surprised at der fuehrer.
"And not one of them raised an alarm? Not one of them even considered the idea that, "hey, this looks bad even though we're blameless"?"
What, and lose their jobs? If the boss says it's OK, one is supposed to just shut up and go with it. /s
Lose their job, get a bad reference letter, and then get audited by their former employer.
...but ve vere just following zee orders ve vere given...now, papuhs...let me see your papuhs pleez....
They're called embeds.
And most insidiously ... the embeds don't even know why they're there.
Just doin' m'job, Cap'n.
The WP posted this in their “Style” section?
The Nuremburg defense, just following orders.
I was just following orders. I'm low-level. No need to bite the hand that feeds me. Etc., etc.
Aid, comfort, paychecks, bonuses, pensions, perks to domestic enemies and their enablers/wannabees/underlings/second-handers/see-hear-speak no evil weaklings never defined or envisioned by the founders.
NOW is their opportunity to come clean.
Anyone that would actually work for the IRS isn’t worth a flippin’ camel crap to start with. Just look at the commissioner yesterday if you need proof. Congress needs to indite that clown...talk about arrogance.
Thx for that, Maggie.
For a guy who is all knowing what’s best for the rest of the unwashed world, Obama is stunningly ignorant of what goes on around him by his own lieutenants. So, he’s either a first class liar or a total fraud, or both.
I’ll be IRS employees even maintain their own “Judenraete” councils. How else could you personally justify working for the most monstrous organization in the US? How would you like to go to work every day having your “company” and your role vilified and hated by every American? People who take jobs at the IRS are the lowest level pond scum possible.
Hmmm, they really do need to do some research on the “we were just following orders” excuse.
Why is it that everyone’s in-print faux-German accent reminds me irresistibly of Zsa Zsa Gabor?
In his bunker Hitler wondered why the Russians were so pissed off...
Next time this creep is questioned I hope the questions include "what kind of salary were you making" and "What do you expect your pension to be?" Then that pension needs to be taken away. After all he has confessed his incompetence.
...don’t know, i was thinking more like Hogans Heroes....
Then the House (the Senate will only obstruct justice here) better get them to confess their crimes and get them to rat out their bosses just like prosecuters lean on the mob’s street thugs to get the bosses. I hope they can break the Dem’s code of omerta.
And, of course, there were no "tea party" or "patriot" or any other conservative group that "sailed through" the applications process. They were all hung up and delayed - no doubt for the sake of "consistency." And why questions about donors? About what prayers were said? About what the group was reading?
Just following orders? Where have we heard that one before?
The American Thinker got it right - and the Washington Post was played for fools... Nixon would have been our first dictator if the Washington Post reporters were as stupid then as they are today...
That's what Government workers do. It's their culture. This is why expanded government will eventually bankrupt this country. This is simply a fact.
And it conforms to their worldview.
Similar tactics have been used on the KKK and other groups. This is just an extension.
I have less than zero respect for anyone besides military who works for the Federal Government. Scum-sucking leeches, all of them.
“Why does anyone need a gun that holds thirty bullets?”
“Next time this creep is questioned I hope the questions include “what kind of salary were you making” and “What do you expect your pension to be?” Then that pension needs to be taken away. After all he has confessed his incompetence.”
Take away his pension...AFTER he gets out of prison in 30 years.
What does it mean again when Muslims show you the soles of their shoes?
As bad as this appears it will come to nothing. It is not the worst thing the ostoner gang is doing. It is controlled by ostoner and can’t be pinned on him. He knows that and that is why it was “leaked” and got this whole mess started.
It will come to nothing while, out of scrutiny, something much worse is concluded.
It could backfire because of the arrogance of Miller and the outrage it sparks but I doubt it.
Just licking boots and kissing asses.
"IRS employees are members of the NTEU. The NTEU that is using money from these very same IRS employees to fund the campaigns of anti-Tea Party candidates like Baldwin, Donnelly, McCaskill, Pelosi and Hoyer. Not to mention all the rest of the Democrats who got a piece of the IRS employee money action.
As one would suspect, given the enormous clout of the liberal IRS union, its all about the politics. Liberal politics and the financing of the liberal welfare state...
...the NTEU, which gave 94% of its campaign money to anti-Tea Party candidates, has the clout within the IRS to demand a say in who can and cannot carry a Blackberry and receive other high tech communications equipment...
This doesnt even mention the power the NTEU has inside the IRS to decide everything from promotion rules to size of employee workspaces and on and on.
So the obvious.
If you are working in the IRS, and you are an NTEU member, and you know your union leadership is funneling your union dues to anti-Tea Party candidates, and your union has so much raw power within the IRS that they even control whether you, an IRS employee, can get even such mundane tech gear as a Blackberry what attitude are you going to display as you review Tea Party applications that must, by law, come in to the IRS for approval?
You already know what to do. And inside the IRS, thats exactly what was done. The Tea Party, in the vernacular, was screwed. By IRS bureaucrats whose union money is being used to attack the Tea Party. Of course these IRS employees know what to do most probably without even being asked. There is no need to ask. And if they dont follow the union program and want a Blackberry tough luck..."
Nazi Germany all over again. Just shut up and follow orders.
During the hours of testimony on Friday, did anyone ask point blank:
“Did YOU instruct IRS staff to scrutinize conservative 501C4 applicants?”
Low level IRS bureaucrats calling winners and losers in our political system? Heady stuff. Swollen egos in little Cincinnati fiefdoms...
IRS agents made calls - not based on law - but by carefully applying one standard for liberals and a different standard for conservatives.
Same horror happened in the United States years ago ... back in the racist South...
Voting in the Jim Crow era was the same... blacks had to pass difficult test to get the right to vote - whites just signed a card. Sounds like our modern IRS agents...
Different victims - same evil...
Seems the IRS is deluding themselves. These folks could have worked out train schedules for Dachau without missing a wink of sleep. And the idiot reporter from the Washington Post wouldn't have had the wit to question any of it...
Impossible voter registration 'tests' for blacks - signature cards for whites... - in our time impossible standards for conservatives - easy OK's for liberals. .. Something has to be done.
Where is Chris Matthews and the NAACP on this issue? Would love to hear their excuses... Jesse Jackson - are you out there? Al Sharpton - doesn't this remind you of something???
Need to investigate NTEU minutes and emails ,web site and blogs.regarding their comments to members about tea party members. I bet you would find more smoking guns nationwide.
Immunity to the right IT guy would pay off...:^)
Someone signed that Directive. Are you listening, Congressman Issa?
I had a friend whose wife worked at the IRS as an auditor, located in the Bible Belt (actual location withheld to protect the innocent). She mainly worked in business audits. She isn't pond scum at all. However, think geek: a numbers geek. She is an accountant, and is all about the numbers and the regulations; all day, every day. In talking with her, I got the impression that she never thought past the numbers and regulations; never thought about how what she did affected people, their businesses and their lives. She just didn't seem capable. Sort of odd... She knew what people thought about the IRS, but didn't seem to care much. Her attitude was someone had to do it, and it might as well be her. However, she was very aware of what was needed to keep her job and lucrative retirement. Was also all about doing what was needed to get ahead and stay ahead in the IRS. She knew she had it good, and wasn't about to jeopardize it.
If the Representatives asking him don't have any evidence to force him to admit it, he'll just deny it. They need to climb the ladder from the low level employees upward. Get the ones who actually turned down the tax exempt status for Tea Party groups to turn over memos and provide testimony against they bosses, then get them to turn on their bosses until you hit the top.
About the only thing you could get from directly asking your question today is the chance to nail him on perjury later.
Don't forget that George W Bush was responsible for everything that happened in Barry's first term. Why, that old meanie just wouldn't let go of the presidency, and kept running the country over Barry's head.
It took a second election to finally get that evil man to let the power go, and then what happens? Barry's underlings take over, and start running the country into the ground behind his back!
He's a victim, I tell ya.
Just imagine when their powers are extended to healthcare.
All roads lead to the WH and now Obama is working to add as many forks in the road as possible.
