I had mentioned before, that the country seems to have a pattern of many years of centrist/conservatives (IMO, Clinton was fairly centrist, or at least he acted that way in the second half of his tenure), then tries four years of a worthless liberal, and quickly realizes its mistake. What threw things off this time was a not terribly strong candidate and an election that is beginning to look as though it was manipulated beyond the usual Democrat voting “irregularities”.
