I was about to remark that I don’t understand why we are having such cold miserable weather if the sun has been active with sunspots lately. I thought our climate was largely influenced by solar activity and I’ve been arguing with Libs to that effect for some time. Was I wrong?

A lag between event and effect? You've got me curious, and I'll check it out. The phenomenon is very well documented at this point. The 11-year cycles (within large cycles, I think) have been followed since the 18th century.
