Massachusetts universities and colleges that say theyre trying to hold down costs have increased their number of administrators three times faster than their number of students, according to federal data analyzed by the New England Center for Investigative Reporting.
The pace with which administrators have been added at Massachusetts higher-education institutions has also outstripped the increase in the number of research and teaching faculty and other instructional employees, by a margin of two-to-one.
Over the last 25 years, the universities enrollments have collectively grown by 26 percent, while their ranks of full-time administrators have risen 75 percent. This has happened not only at private universities, but also at some public ones.
Its a large part of why tuition is going up, said Andrew Gillen, research director at the nonpartisan Washington think tank Education Sector, which collected the federal data and supplied it to the New England Center for Investigative Reporting.

power truly corrupts and how much more power is there than the ability to hand out jobs?
Huge con game higher Ed is...
Take a look at your local school district, the same sh## is going on, there are administrators assistants to the assistant. We are being robbed of our tax dollars from all sides. How is it that when your kids are out of school you still continue to pay school taxes? Administrators families and spouses continue to get medical benifits until the pass on? School budgets will run a vote as many times as it takes to pass.........each time being more vague as to when and where that vote is scheduled. Until you read in your local paper that SURPRISE! the school budget has passed at overwhelming numbers and your increase will ONLY be..........Schools are now houses of propaganda and social services and not of learning, a huge story for another time
Which is why you have higher education costs....but fewer teachers, and students in debt
And no one addresses the issue of administrative and executive excess and over-compensation in schools and government. Even the ones that cut spending like Scott Walker do not go after administrative excess and over-compensation.... of course, many politicians end up with cushy school jobs when they leave politics.
Here in FL...Rick Scott jacked up school spending again....after cutting it. The increases aren’t going to teachers or students... they will be going for admin/executive jobs....so the politicians have jobs after government
