Re: cats being quake detectors.... I had a cat before Northridge hit. She jumped on our bed & rousted me out right before it hit.... I was under the doorway in a flash.
My kitty now was born n bred in Texas n I got her when she was a year n a half old.... she’s 3 now & HATES thunderstorms. She’s my watch cat ..

RE: Animals and weather and green skies:
The Loma Prieta 10-17-89 ED epicenter was about 10 miles from where we lived. My dogs followed me under a stout table. Our neighbor’s cat blamed the neighbor for all the shaking and gave her the “silent cat treatment” for months.
I grew up in KS. green skies usually means hail and bad winds.
In KS, when the air gets deathly still, the cattle stop lowing and milling about, birds stop singing, it’s time to head for the cellar. It’s an eerie quiet, the hairs on the back of your neck stand straight up, you know instinctively something very bad is about to happen.
I pray for everyone impacted in these storms. My parents are in their basement now. I hope they and everyone are safe.
