Yup I’ve seen it myself with a black kid I was training for a much better paying job. He told me that he had to live in the same neighborhood with his antagonists and walked away from it.
Trouble with your hometown saying bad thing because you are going to college.It happen in small towns in Mi in the early 1950-——I can remember many people saying “YOU THINK YOUR SO SMART BECAUSE YOU ARE GOING TO COLLEGE. May be normal reaction to change in relationship between you and your town.
This outcry is heard from people around the world (sometimes among the lower classes, regardless of skin color). Basically the loafers don’t want to see their “buddies” grow up, leave the neighborhood, and get a good life going.

And that goes double for the politicians who claim they help ‘the community’ but obstruct small business growth, investment, and personal reward.
I guess it never dawned on him that by improving his employment he would no longer HAVE to live in that 'hood, he'd have options.
