A spate of hate-fueled attacks on gay men in New York, including a killing in the heart of one of its most gay-friendly neighborhoods, is stirring up anxiety, disbelief and outrage heading into what is usually a time of gay pride celebration.
In the wake of last weekends deadly shooting on a street in Greenwich Village, officials said Monday that police would increase their presence in the Village and nearby neighborhoods through the end of Junegay pride month.
I dont know why it feels like we have taken a step backward, but that is the case, and what were going to do with that is push forward, said City Council Speaker Christine Quinnthe first openly gay person to hold the post.
Officials and advocates cant pinpoint a reason for the recent rash of attacks, or even whether it reflects more violence or more reporting of it. Police called the killing of Mark Carson early Saturday a hate crime.

I’ll never understand something like this because the logic is insane: He kills a gay guy because he doesn’t like gays which he must know will send him away to the gayest place on earth for life - prison.

Two weeks later they found out some homo offed his “boyfriend”, but why not imply that it was some fake “hate crime”? Gays seem to be really good at that these days.

Wrong. They caught the guy. Two-bit thug, no previous connection to the victim. Approached the victim and a 'companion,' asked if they "want to die here," yellled 'anti-gay slurs,' and shot him in the face.
