California Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer blamed the tornado that devastated Oklahoma on global warming during a Senate floor speech Tuesday, using the opportunity to push her own plan to tax carbon dioxide emissions.
This is climate change, Boxer said. This is climate change. We were warned about extreme weather: Not just hot weather, but extreme weather. When I had my hearings, when I had the gavel years ago its been a while the scientists all agreed that what wed start to see was extreme weather.
Carbon could cost us the planet, Boxer added, plugging her own carbon tax bill, co-sponsored by Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders. The least we could do is put a little charge on it so people move to clean energy.
The massive tornado that hit Oklahoma had winds up to 200 miles per hour and killed at least 51 people as it tore through neighborhoods. USA Today reports that more than 120 people were receiving treatment at hospitals, including about 50 children.
Boxer is not the only Democrat to blame the tornado on global warming, as Rhode Island Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse spent 15 minutes on the Senate floor ranting against Republicans for denying man-made global warming.
Boxer and Sanders introduced a carbon tax shortly after President Barack Obama threatened to use his executive authority to address global warming if Congress failed to act. Their bill would put a gradually rising fee on carbon dioxide emissions to fund green-energy projects such as wind, solar, geothermal and biomass.
Another group of House and Senate Democrats have also introduced draft legislation that would also slap carbon emissions with a gradually rising fee to reduce the use of carbon-heavy energy sources, like coal.
Youre going to have tornadoes and all the rest. We need to protect our people, Boxer said on the Senate floor. Thats our No. 1 obligation and we have to deal with this threat that is upon us and that is gonna get worse and worse through the years.
A study by the Institute for Energy Research (IER) argued that a revenue-neutral carbon tax could be a cure worse than the disease.
The dismal record of the U.S. government in implementing efficient climate change policies is hardly evidence in favor of a massive new carbon tax (or cap-and-trade program), said the studys author, IER senior economist Robert Murphy in an accompanying statement. [S]uch a new program will be abused in the political process, and will not be tailored to the recommendations of climate scientists and environmental economists.
Here we go.
Never let a crisis go to waste?
The crisis is the vermin in DC at every level, IMO.
A “carbon tax” is nothing more than a transfer of wealth to Obama’s cronies.
The childish view of weather is that our atmosphere is like water boiling in a pot...and more heat makes it go from a slow boil to a rolling boil.
In the real world, severe weather is caused by the collision of cold air and hot air...this is why the weatherman says ‘it looks like some storms Tuesday when a Cold Front moves through’.
According to global warming religion, the warming is occuring at the poles...especially the north pole, where all that ice is melting. If this is true, the temperature differential between the north pole and the midwest would be reduced, and we would expect less severe weather.
This year has not seen an unusually high number of tornados.
Yesterday’s tornado was not record breaking in wind speed, by a long shot.
By sad coincidence of geography, yesterday’s tornado hit a populated area and some schools. That is the tragedy. It has nothing to do with ‘climate change’.
Let her do to the weather what she did to healthcare.
Pray for America to Wake Up
I believe there is a special place in hell for BLOOD DANCERS. Especially when it involves the precious blood of children.
Barbara Boxer’s nick name is Barbara ‘Bag Of Rocks’. I think she gives a bag of rocks a bad name.
She also bounced some 542 checks to the house post office when she was a congresscritter.
Shove your clean energy up your backside you communist bitch!
Boxer and her fellow loons are suffering from anthropogenic rubbish in their brains.
Perhaps she can draft legislation to ban assault tornadoes.
Okies, and I’m one, don’t care for this kind of BS. There is a reason Obama lost every county in OK.
If not a ban, at least limit them. The EF scale has 6 levels, 0-5. No tornado needs that many. /sarc
And then there’s this idiot out of RI
Above: "Continental US Temperature Lower Troposphere (TLT) 1979 to Present" (currently temperatures are below average for the period - see final data point at far right of graph).
Science is hard, isn't it, Babs? Idiot.
Make a tax any tax will do it’s the democrat way.
As opposed to those mild tornados that have been around since the beginning of creation, these new "extreme" tornados will just have to go. And a carbon tax should just about do the trick.
