It was an ancient region of southern Palestine comprising present-day southern Israel and southwest Jordan, not the nation of Israel.

The region of Judea was conquered by the Romans. In a bid to sever the link between the Jews and the land, they renamed Judea 'palestina' after the ancient and sea faring Philistines, a people who had already vanished.

There is no connection between Palestinian Arabs and the Philistines. The term 'Palestinian' always referred to both the Jews and the Arabs living there. Jews have been living in that region for the past 3000 yrs - continuously.
