When the main US federal emergency agency arrives at the scene of a disaster-hit area, one of the first places it turns to is the local Waffle House – and not just for its officials to grab a quick bite.

when a big snowstorm hit our area about 10 years ago... we walked for an hour just to get a hot meal at waffle house. one of the best meal i’ve ever had that year.
Fema was praised after its quick response after hurricane Sandy? Maybe by the Obama fawning media but certainly not by the people affected by the hurricane.
And if the Waffle House is the only thing standing, and serving the survivors for free?
He can’t look around and see there are no houses and figure out how serious the emergency is?
Waffle houses? This is stupid. Fugate is has clearly risen to his level of incompetence and beyond.
FEMA is a COS in cahoots with Red Cross.
That is why it is better to give via the Salvation Army. All the money goes 100 % to where it is needed.
They get their locations up and running fast. If they aren't open that is a good quick indication that the surrounding area has been hit hard and needs immediate attention. If the local WH is up and running, that area is considered to be doing better, with water and electricity up and running.
My cousin went to help after Sandy and found FEMA feeding people largely unaffected by the hurricane in neighborhoods with little damage and mostly just without power.
FEMA wouldn’t go in to the worst hit areas because they were unsecured. My cousin said that a couple dozen National Guardsmen showed up and wouldn’t have any of it. They told the FEMA leadership “Stop us if you can” and commandeered the trucks and led them into the worst hit areas.
I won’t give to anyone but the Salvation Army or Beck’s Mercury 1 charity.
At least the faith based organizations are a little more trust worthy.

My Red Cross experience is NEGATIVE. In our disaster they would not lift a finger to help until the federal disaster declaration. Why? They get paid by FEMA for their services then.
Don’t bother to respond in defense of Red Cross. What I saw is what I know.
It probably wouldn’t hurt to take the time to seek out churches in areas of disasters to see if they’re taking donations.
As an example, I was in South Texas with my family some years ago. A hurricane was heading in, so we cut our vacation short and headed north. Upon stopping at a Walmart several hours out of the target area, I noticed that their parking lot had a couple dozen parked semi-trailers. I believe that these were supplies ready to be quickly trucked in to wherever the storm ended up coming in. The store itself had pallets and pallets of batteries and lanterns and other items which you would expect people to want in a disaster.
Free Enterprise - where people can plan ahead to help other people in search of profit. This may sound bad to some, but I can think of no better method for ensuring that supplies are available when and where needed.

That is why I deal only with faith based services, such as Salvation Army for example. I will not touch the Red Cross in regards to money donations.
That is why I promote faith based organizations, even on the national level, because they work with their local branches.

RC will help......eventually. After everything is settled down, everyone is present and accounted for, any difficult questions have been addressed, and all the proper forms are filled out.
I prefer the Salvation Army. They don't wait, they don't ask questions, they just show up as soon as they can with what's needed and help.
I concur. It beats the heck out of, say, Venezuela, where massive socialism has resulted in the inability to supply enough toilet paper for the populace in "normal" conditions, let alone a disaster.
Obama is taking us straight down that path, if we let him.
