Germany Is The 'Most Popular Country in the World' (BBC Polling)

Europe's largest economy, Germany, which has been criticized for not doing enough to help struggling euro zone countries, has topped a poll as the world's most popular country.

The survey, carried out for the BBC, polled 26,000 people in 25 countries and asked them to rate 16 countries and the European Union as a whole on whether their influence on the world was mainly positive or negative.

Germany came out on top, with 59 percent of survey participants giving it a positive rating. The country moved up three percentage points from its 2012 position. It displaced Japan, which saw its positive rating fall from 58 percent last year to 51 percent, going from first to fourth place.

The most negatively perceived country was Iran, with only 15 percent of respondents giving it a positive rating. Pakistan and North Korea also received low ratings.

Germany's increased popularity was helped by positive reviews from people in Spain, France, Ghana and Australia.

Alastair Newton, political analyst at Japanese investment bank Nomura, said Germany's popularity in the survey is not surprising given the alternative choices.

"There are lots of reasons why Germany is admired," Newton said. "It is a large and important world economy, a world-class manufacturer and has a chancellor who demonstrates genuine leadership. The question also is, where else would it be? It is hardly likely to be the U.S., given their attitude to the Middle East, or China given Western and Japanese concerns on the country," he added.

Hardly the most popular country in the whole world.

“polled 26,000 people in 25 countries and asked them to rate 16 countries and the European Union”

That’s a pathetic sample for a world survey, typical of the BBC.

Also, how is Germany the “most popular country in the world” when the only choices were the 16 Soviet republics of the EUSSR? I know they think the universe revolves around them, but...

I predict if the survey included ALL countries, the result would be Barbados or something similar.

I don’t see Yemen getting a single vote in a real survey, even from its own people.

They seem to have come a long way since 1946.

And, likewise, the US - still the greatest democracy in the entire history of the world - has fallen a long way since 1946.

I’d be interested to hear an explanation.

Fair enough.we’ll round up the 30 million wetbacks currently in the country and put them on a boat destined for Hamburg. We’ll be happier and the wetbacks will be happier. It’s a “win win” arrangement.

Of COURSE it is:

In the sand-blown Turd World only RICH muzzies can afford multiple wives. But in GERMANY you officially marry ONE, and then send each of the next three to the local ward office.

There, peering out from her BEE-KEEPER GARB and baby bump, she spins ridiculous story about ONE NIGHT LOVE at the local disco, and the multiKulty idiots who work there won’t let out one peep.

FRITZ CAN PAY..!!

Did she get married at the Mosque? Why yes, and it’s quite the grand affair, too, but there is NO NEED AT ALL to register marriages at mosques in Germany, so as far as the taxpayers are concerned she REALLY IS “single”.

It’s a total scam, and literally on the national scale.

Hey, a feller who opens his wallet and lets other people take money out of it is bound to be pretty popular.

If there's anything in it, it's more like "least unpopular of the best known countries." Germany exports a lot, gives a lot in foreign aid and hands out a lot of scholarships. They're a big country, so even though they don't give as high a percentage of their GNP in developmental aid, they are #3 in the total amount.

In spite of all the horrible things Germany did in the war, they don't have the kind of troubled colonial past as other countries -- at least not outside Europe and not within living memory -- so countries outside Europe might think quite well of them.
