Germany Is The 'Most Popular Country in the World' (BBC Polling)

Europe's largest economy, Germany, which has been criticized for not doing enough to help struggling euro zone countries, has topped a poll as the world's most popular country.

The survey, carried out for the BBC, polled 26,000 people in 25 countries and asked them to rate 16 countries and the European Union as a whole on whether their influence on the world was mainly positive or negative.

Germany came out on top, with 59 percent of survey participants giving it a positive rating. The country moved up three percentage points from its 2012 position. It displaced Japan, which saw its positive rating fall from 58 percent last year to 51 percent, going from first to fourth place.

The most negatively perceived country was Iran, with only 15 percent of respondents giving it a positive rating. Pakistan and North Korea also received low ratings.

Germany's increased popularity was helped by positive reviews from people in Spain, France, Ghana and Australia.

Alastair Newton, political analyst at Japanese investment bank Nomura, said Germany's popularity in the survey is not surprising given the alternative choices.

"There are lots of reasons why Germany is admired," Newton said. "It is a large and important world economy, a world-class manufacturer and has a chancellor who demonstrates genuine leadership. The question also is, where else would it be? It is hardly likely to be the U.S., given their attitude to the Middle East, or China given Western and Japanese concerns on the country," he added.

“....they will be welcomed with open arms and flowers.”

.
The Nazis were initially welcomed in the Ukraine in WWII but, stupidly, they showed their ingratitude.

Had the Nazis incorporated the Ukraine in a more honorable way, the two nations would have conquered Russia and the people in Europe would all be speaking German.

So, was the USA not included in the survey? The article does not make that clear - crappy journalism, for an article appearing in a USA news agency.

Oh, they would have incorporated Ukraine, all right...by using it’s occupants as fertilizer.

Maybe Germany is the nation that Obama is thinking of when he claims it is a fallacy that America is the best nation on Earth.

That or Saudi Arabia.

People want to come to America instead of go to Germany because they don't want to have to learn to speak German.

Make people decline adjectives and nouns in English like they do in German...that will keep them out of the US!

The idea that Slavs were subhuman was a key part of Hitler's ideology. It doesn't get as much attention as his attitude toward the Jews since he didn't try to kill all the Slavs--although the total number of Slavs who died prematurely between 1939 and 1945 because Hitler invaded their countries (soldiers and civilians, directly shot or died in bombing raids or concentration camps or died of starvation) was a lot higher than the 6 million Jews whose deaths he was responsible for.

Hitler wanted to colonize the fertile grain-producing areas of Eastern Europe with Germans. That would be at the expense of Poles and Ukrainians.

That some Ukrainians initially welcomed the Germans was because of how badly they had been treated by Stalin (upwards of 3 million killed by starvation thanks to his policies in the 1930s), and perhaps ignorance of what the Nazi ideology was. It might have made sense for Hitler to treat the captive nations of the USSR well, but it would have gone contrary to his ideology. From a practical perspective, the Holocaust itself was stupid--killing healthy productive people for no reason beyond an obsession in Hitler's own mind.
