Agreed, but most people know that and if they did go elsewhere, would buff up their shoes prior to hitting the alleys again. Not perfect, but no one wants to have their skid ruined by pebbles on the shoe.

But were you wearing your seatbelt?

That’s the clincher.

Keep people from going outside to smoke.

Smoking is now prohibited IN bowling alleys, by law. Bowlers have been stepping outside for a smoke in their bowling shoes in inclement weather. The shoes get wet, they try to walk on tile floors, slip, and sue the bowling alley. This legislation is being pushed as a small business protection, to keep bowling alleys from being sued.

Seems to be a case of overstepping boundaries to “protect” the owners. No sign will protect an owner from a lawsuit. Hell, when I lived in snow country, the city mandated that you shovel your walks in front of your house. Sounds good until you find out that an un-shoveled walk is an act of God, thereby beyond human responsibility, and a shoveled walk is a lawsuit in-waiting. Once you modify nature, you are responsible for any damages - even if you did the modification under penalty of law.

[[The law is supposed to protect bowling alley owners from lawsuits.]]

And a simpel clearly posted sign stating that when someone STEALS the shoes, they are respopnsbilble for their own actions won’t work? Or a signed piece of paper statign hte peopel are responsible for htuier own actions outside the alley? We need a law for this?

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience".

This country crossed the line into fascism decades ago, but it wasn’t until the last decade or so that it became so obvious that I was awakened from my denial. You couldn’t see that line behind us now even with a high powered telescope.

NYC residents seem to love this kind of heavy-handedness. I guess they derive a feeling of security when a tyrant rules over them.
