Toronto Mayor Rob Ford denied that he smokes crack cocaine and said he is not an addict, breaking a week of silence over reports of a video purportedly showing him using the drug. Critics were not appeased, with one city councilor questioning whether the mayor told the whole truth and another calling on him to resign.
The mayor of Canadas largest city did not say whether he has ever used crack. He did not take questions from reporters at a news conference at City Hall, held after close allies released a letter urging him to address the reports of the video.
I do not use crack cocaine, nor am I an addict of crack cocaine, Ford said. As for a video, I cannot comment on a video that I have never seen, or does not exist.
Ford had been ducking the media and his only comments before Friday on the scandal came a week ago, a day after the story broke, when he called the crack smoking allegations ridiculous and said the Toronto Star newspaper was out to get him.

For the record, The Star is a “progressive” rag. The entire cast of MSNBC isn’t as left-wing as this toilet paper masquerading as a newspaper is.
drug test him. Hair not urine!
Too bad Larry Sinclair didn’t have a video camera back in the day.
“Bitch set me up”
Gay pics of Barry and Larry would have definitely shut down the Obama express to the white house... but the related mass epidemic of blindness would have been tragic.
We’ll have to wait and see. He’s a conservative being attacked by liberals.
I thought Canada was into the drug legalization thing?
On what basis?
The hearsay of a few reporters,
who supposedly saw a video,
that no one has made public,
and was allegedly produced by Somali drug dealers,
whom no one can find.
I can't tell if that's supposed to be grounds for compelling a drug test, or the rejected plot to an episode of Castle.
Sorry for the rant. I an aware that he is somewhat conservative, for Canada, but enough is enough with the ruling class of all Western countries.
If someone is on crack cocaine they should be kept as far away from responsibility as is humanly possible.
Random drug tests are not allowed in Canada, except for situations where impairment on the job poses a safety risk to others.
I’d say the job of “politician”, regardless of Party, poses a substantial safety risk to others.
Unless Toronto Mayor Rob Ford's job involves operating heavy machinery or something else that poses an immediate threat to the safety of those around him, then a drug test would be a violation of his rights.
Don't let Jim's tirade distract from the point. Ford has been accused. No credible evidence has yet been produced. So far, this manufactured controversy is no different from a leftard-media witch hunt.
I would consider a the mayor of a city of millions who happens to be on crack cocaine a serious risk to others. Wouldn’t you?
Do you know for a fact that Ford "happens to be on crack cocaine"? Or are you just another one of those credulous sheep that believes that if it's on the news, it must be true?
Do you know for a fact that Ford “happens to be on crack cocaine”?
No, that is why he should be drug tested.
Are you familiar with the concept of "burden of proof"? Ford doesn't carry it. His accusers do.
I’m of the opinion that all politicians should be drug tested weekly. There is no greater “immediate” threat to your safety or your rights than the threat posed by politicians. Period.
