BALTIMORE--The presidential ambitions of Maryland governor Martin OMalley have taken a hit after a federal investigation uncovered a sordid sex-drugs-and-racketeering ring festering right under his nose.
On April 23, prosecutors indicted 13 state corrections officers on charges that they colluded with inmates at the Baltimore City Detention Center (BCDC) to launder money and smuggle drugs and cell phones to the inmates, members of a prison gang called the Black Guerrilla Family.
Two of the guards indicted had the name of the jails BGF leader, Tavon White, tattooed on their bodies, one on the wrist, the other on the neck. Of the 13 (female) guards indicted, four were pregnant with Whites children. At a news conference, the FBI agent in charge said that White effectively raised the BGF flag over Baltimore City Detention Center.
That this occurred on OMalleys watch looked bad, but might have been redeemable. After all, the governor first rose to prominence as Baltimores tough-on-crime mayor. Department of Public Safety and Corrections secretary Gary Maynard emphasized the state was proactive enough to ask the FBI to commandeer the investigation. It was time for OMalley to take control, fire a lot of people, and pose for some good pictures frowning and talking intently with the FBI.
Instead, the spin has been almost worse than the scandal. OMalley was off on a trade mission to Israel when the story broke, and he waited a week to respond. When he finally did, the governor shirked responsibility (Were all responsible) and clung tightly to the notion that the indictments are a positive development in our fight against corruption and gangs.

Keep grooming, He has a snowballs chance in Hell of getting the nomination and even les of a chance at getting the presidency.
They better find another black guy to run, preferably another charismatic otherwise untraceable one. I don’t think Hilldabeast will be enough.
MOM, hard on guns, soft on crime.
I moved to MD about 3 1/2 years ago. I’d heard it was corrupt but had absolutely no idea until I got here. It’s absolutley insane.
When I read your line, I pictured my dog grooming himself...
I think most big-city jail systems are as corrupt as this. some time ago I read an article about the NYC detention centers; one of which was Rikers (sp?) island. It is about the same.
Maryland is a poster child for liberal government run wild. If you love oppressive regulations and ever higher taxes, Maryland is the place for you.
Maryland just taxed the rain. What else is there to know?

********
Sorry to hear of your misfortune. But your departure will be a joyous event.
I’ve been stationed at Fort Meade for over 8 months, and I thank God my home of record is WA state. If I had to claim this place as home, I might end up another suicide statistic.
I moved to MD about a year ago from Jersey. Jersey is only slightly worse on the corruption scale. Also OweMally has no chance of a presidential victory in 16. He is possibly the most protax governor in the US.
I wanna see pictures of the ho-bag guards who got knocked up.

I’ve seen pictures of some. They are exactly what you’d expect.
DC used to look to Annapolis for corruption lessons.
Ha! No. Ha! No.
He has people for that.
baltimore maybe, hon but not naptown
the corrupt come here for the legislative session, do their wicked malfeasance for 9 months, and then go home to Baltimore Montgomery and PeeGee counties
even lilMarty’s family doesn’t really “live” here
Annapolis and Anne Arundel with its high population of small businesses and military retirees used to be a small bastion of conservatism until we got gerrymandered
