Did you read the article?
The article said that the LDS Church feels comfortable with scouts that have same sex attraction as long as they do not participate in pre-marital sex.
The program is much more likely to promote family values on same sex attraction youth who have not yet experimented, than it would pervert fellow scouts.
As a LDS Scout Master and a proud homophobe, I can deal with this and I actually don’t think it will change anything.
Kids who are openly homosexual, cannot abide by the morality contract required in an LDS troup, and those who have sexual confusion are more likely to be strengthened through scouting companions with strong moral values.
I think you are wrong. It will move and more in the wrong direction. This is not a win for the good guys by any stretch of the imagination. Gay Scout leaders in 2 years or less. The ban on sex in camp will be dropped. Pedophiles will flock.
I am not convinced but you’re in the midst of it so...
good luck in its working out!
the joke's on you. if you do the right thing and refuse to bunk homos and straights in the same tents you will be sued.
“As a LDS Scout Master and a proud homophobe, I can deal with this and I actually dont think it will change anything.”
So when the church opposed gay Scouts, you supported that position but now that church allows gay Scouts, you support that position.
Oh?
What "contract" might that be? I was a SM for LDS troops twice and was never aware of such a thing.
Simply put, the LDS sanctioned the move made by BSA and that is why the membership policy change occurred. LDS Scouting is a "hollow" organization because they pay membership fees for every youth of Scouting age on their rolls regardless of participation in either church or Scouting.
Too much money involved for BSA not to get the LDS's "blessings" on this move. Money that BSA doesn't have to spend supporting hundreds, if not thousands of other units and that can be spent on exorbitant salaries and idiotic ventures like "the Summit".
This is why the BSA National President, a mormon, went to SLC personally and in advance of the vote that ultimately changed the policy...
