The Catholic Church's top exorcist, who claims to have sent 160,000 demons back to hell, says he wants Pope Francis to allow all priests to start performing the ritual to deal with a rising demand for exorcisms from the faithful.
Father Gabriele Amorth, 88, who also heads the International Association of Exorcists, told The Sunday Times that he will ask Pope Francis to allow all priests the right to do exorcisms without the church's approval. According to the report, priests currently need special approval from their bishop to perform the rite and it is rarely granted.
"I will ask the pope to give all priests the power to carry out exorcisms, and to ensure priests are properly trained for these starting with the seminary. There's a huge demand for them," said Father Amorth.
He explained that he was inspired to make the request after watching Pope Francis perform what he insists was an exorcism on a man "possessed by four demons" in St. Peter's Square.
"The pope is also the Bishop of Rome, and like any bishop he is also an exorcist," Amorth reportedly told La Repubblica newspaper. "It was a real exorcism. If the Vatican has denied this, it shows that they understand nothing."
"There was now, more than ever, a need for exorcists to combat people possessed by 'sorcerers' and 'Satanists,'" he noted in that report.

When I visited Rome several years ago, my Italian friend suggested that I not walk too close to a certain building tucked away behind a wall. “The exorcist lives there,” she said. It did have rather an eerie feeling.
Some people think that demons may not get driven all the way back to hell and hang around the site of exorcism or the exorcist. Probably good advice to stay away.

I wonder if he can handle millions of additional exorcisms. Lord knows there are so many low information drones out there who could use one.
There will be only demons left after such an exorcism. Perhaps that would be an improvement.

Casting out demons will be bad for Hollywood ticket sales though. The movies have been doing a good business using the Devil’s values for years.
Or, this being the 21st and not the 10th century, all people can help "possesed" people get mental health treatment and medication, which will probably work much better.
Just like we figured out that solar eclipses were caused by the moon getting in the way instead of a dragon eating the sun, we've figured out that what people call demonic possession is mental illness, often with detectable brain structure or chemical anomalies, often inherited, or in rare cases (some of the supposed witch incidents) natural poisoning.
Whatever would us poor benighted FReepers do, without our dear Strategerist to set us straight?

I worked at a mental hospital, and there were a few cases where a Psychiatrist would indicate he thought an Exorcism was in order...
Not many know this, but he tried selling used Fiats in the ‘70s.
Didn’t work out, sorry to say. They kept getting re-possessed.
And now Fiat breaks bread with the Anti-Chrysler. That won’t end well.

Maybe, maybe not. When a person is speaking foreign languages they never learned, levitating, showing superhuman strength, vomiting up nails, frogs, lizards, and other objects they could not have swallowed, we have gone beyond simple mental illness. Take some time to study up on this matter, the link I posted in my previous post is a good start. And read Father Amorth's book "An Exorcist Tells His Story."

not exactly. mental illness is having the space that needs to be filled by God in one’s soul filled instead by satan.....
