I have a Medtronic device (baclofen pump)...what I don’t understand is this. I know there was a tax added to all medical devices. That tax will be passed onto the consumer, I’m sure. So does Medtronic expect to have less business because their devices will cost more?
I guess they might be figuring that insurance will approve less Medtronic devices for their patients. My device is supposed to be replaced ever 4 to 7 years, depending on the battery life. It would not end my life if I didn’t have it, it would make it much harder, and more painful, but not cause a fatality. However a pacemaker is not exactly an optional medical device.
I’d love an explanation from somebody who obviously understands more about the logistics of these layoffs.
