SANFORD -- Homes in the Sanford neighborhood where Trayvon Martin was killed have been plagued with foreclosures and short sales.
Some business owners say they are still feeling the pain from the bad press the city got as the case unfolded.
The Retreat at Twin Lakes in Sanford has become better known as the scene of the Trayvon Martin shooting.
When people think of Orlando, they think of Disney World, but when people think of Sanford now, they think of Trayvon Martin and the killing that happened there," said attorney Justin Clark.
Clark has helped clients in this neighborhood handle their short sales. He says the homes are nearly impossible to sell.
The only people buying in there it seems to us, are people who dont know what happened, Clark said. He estimates homes in neighboring communities are selling for 30 percent more.
Its almost like you need a disclaimer on the contract saying, Oh, this is the Travyon Martin neighborhood because once someone realizes, Oh my God this is the Trayvon Martin neighborhood? the prices just arent going to be what it really should be, Clark said.
While this neighborhood was directly impacted, the city of Sanford as a whole seems to have been stamped. Some business owners tell me theyve been haunted by what happened.
When they had all the hoopla at the beginning, it was like Vietnam with the helicopters flying over all day long, said John Koster, who owns the Scooters motorcycle shop near Downtown Sanford.
Hes moving his store out of town before the George Zimmerman trial starts.
He says as protesters filled the streets of Sanford his store was empty. He lost so much business, hes not willing to take the risk again..........

You can blame Angela Corey for the Stanford circus. May her disbarment
be slow and painful.
I can understand the business owner’s situation. Whether looting is for celebration or riot, this is not gonna end well in that area.
I got news for you locals: People don't want to live in a town that enshrines a jewel thief of a thug while it lynches his last victim. Sanford deserves to be Florida's newest ghetto ghost town.
Just my luck. I was in Los Angeles for a business trip when the Rodney King riots broke out... I have that sort of luck it seems.

...slow and painful AND QUICK. And may the civil lawsuits she faces be even more costly to her than Mike Nifong’s (corrupt Duke Lacrosse DA) civil lawsuit was to him.
When I think of Sanford, I think of how an innocent man is being railroaded for defending himself and his property from a thug.
I’m sure you will be able to get a good deal on a house in Sanford.
>>Great. I have to go to FL the week of June 17’th to find/buy a house. I wonder if the whole state will be in flames that week?
North Florida will be OK as long as you stay out of the red zones.
This should be all over and done with, it was a clear case of self defense until Al and Jesse decided to exploit it.
I’m not worried even a little bit out here in the swamp. The only road in is about 2 miles long and there is a rifle range in every back yard.
Absolutely—Had Zimmerman’s last name been Gonzalez, the story wouldn’t have made it out of Seminole County.
So the shooting cost those people their jobs, and they couldn't afford their mortgages?
Has anybody blamed Bush yet for the shooting? Or Globull Warming?
Come-on people, lets run the whole "blame everyone but me" gambit here.
Poor poor people who probably jumped on the press bandwagon with a fever!
Why do you think Z’s abode was in a gated community?
Do not worry business owners. Business will sky rocket when the trial starts.
We're planning to buy in Delray Beach
I wonder if Trayvon’s father is still living in the condo complex? If his girlfriend and he hadn’t moved in, Zimmerman would be living a normal life right now.
Some blame definitely goes to Martin, his family, and every Black Racist that is defending Black Criminals
Even if Martin was not a self-defense capping....those condos there would still be tough sells. The housing market is still bad in Cen FL....and condos even worse. Condo market crashed a couple of years before the whole real estate market crashed
