Woohoo! Freeper children buck the trend. My 31 year old daughter bought and sold her first house and banked $45,000!
Congrats to your daughter, and you for a fine job of raising her. My two daughters, 30 and 34, also buck the trend. Very focused, got through 4 years of college by 21 and hit the job market. They listened to us parents about staying out of debt. They both have great homes and are doing very well with their own children.
My older daughter and her husband did a novel thing. They bought an old victorian home in a redevelopment area, that had been converted to an apt bldg. The neighborhood is an up and coming area for professionals, near downtown. Cost $80G, bought in cash. No taxes for 10 years. They gutted the bldg, their own labor, and are almost done converting it to living space above and restaurant below. They plan to run a restaurant there. No debt, fully owned, worth $500G. Their friends are of like mind, work hard and smart and you can get things done.
I was just thinking the same thing. My 25 year old and his wife, and quite a few of their married friends, around the same age, have bought houses. And there are some good deals to be had, at extremely low interest rates, a little elbow grease and cosmetic work and their equity has increased. Buying is cheaper than renting, rents around here have not gone down one bit, in fact maybe are higher (around $1000 a month), while the housing market plunged, and mortgage interest rates are in the mid 3%'s.
But what's interesting, as you mentioned, I know all these young adults are from conservative families.
I said the other day, I don't know one person in that age group that does not have a job. My nieces, nephews (and there are a slew of them)...my son and DIL's friends, young people at church, and they all have jobs. Some of them are not full time, especially for the ones still attending college, but they have income.
I wonder about the no jobs numbers, because I don't see them in our "circle."
How do ya sell your home at 30 years old and bank your money? Does she live in her car now?
lol..
My oldest finished college and is getting married to a go getter. the two of them have good jobs and will do well.
My next is out of country in missions and is trying to choose whether to make missions a career or not. She has two jobs waiting if not. Both in management. She is still 20.
My next just finished homeschool and a voc program and has been offered an entry level job in rigging with lots of opportunity.
The youngest is still in school. Self motivated kids with good middle class and upper middle class values are doing well and finding work and opportunities. Has it ever been otherwise?
