Minnesota plays pretend with marriage [Right Side of History isn't on Wrong Side of Reality]
Minneapolis Star Tribune ^ | June 1, 2013 | Katherine Kersten

Posted on 06/01/2013 4:00:46 PM PDT by rhema

One of the clearest things about Minnesota’s new gay-marriage law is that it requires Minnesotans to “play pretend” — to embrace obvious fictions as reality.

For example, the law states that citizens must view the union of two people of the same sex — who can’t produce a child — as identical to that of a man and woman, whose sexual complementarity is the only thing that can. The law also declares that, henceforth, “when necessary to implement the rights and responsibilities of spouses or parents in a civil marriage between persons of the same sex,” words like “mother” and “father” “must be construed in a neutral manner to refer to a person of either gender” under Minnesota law. But a woman can’t be a father, and a man can’t be a mother. It’s a biological fact Minnesota lawmakers can’t repeal, no matter how much they wish to.

Our lawmakers seem utterly untroubled by their vote to impose a regime of “let’s pretend.” What explains this?

The legislators and their supporters who celebrated the bill’s passage on the State Capitol lawn made clear that what they crave is to be in the vanguard of a brave new world. “By your political courage you join that pantheon of exceptional leaders who did something extraordinary,” Gov. Mark Dayton proclaimed as he signed the law. “You changed the course of history for our state and our nation.” President Obama received similar accolades when he announced his support for gay marriage. Apparently, for some folks, there’s nothing headier than to be on the Right Side of History.

But here’s a dirty little secret. No one has the remotest idea where our state officials’ decision to turn our fundamental social institution upside down will take our society in coming decades.

A Star Tribune writer actually making some sense? What? He must have taken some hallucinogenic pharmaceutical ... one he hasn’t taken before.

But if incest is about genetic / dna being to close ..........

I just realized. Now Bachmann has retired, there are literally no redeeming factors of this state. What a weird anomaly Minnesota is. Geographically, it should be a conservative bastion, a rural state. Instead its like Massachusetts had a baby that was born with a freakish appendage known as ‘Al Franken’.

Minnesota has always been a kind of populist-leftist state, with kook politicians from both parties.

Minnesota Republican Frank Kellogg, for example, was instrumental in the Kellogg-Briand Treaty, which not only greased the wheels for World War Two, but set off the trend of waging undeclared wars.

I am sick and tired of such a small minority having so
much power! By definition marriage is a bond between a man and a woman that can produce children.

This article points out the crux of what happens when you just start letting the state redefine things like marriage. The redefinition of marriage means you redefine the meaning of Mother and Father or as has happened in some places you make the usage of the terms equivalent to bigotry and just remove them altogether replacing them with words like partner. Gay marriage and gay activism and the sexual progressivism it is a part of is showing itself to be a severe threat to liberty and the freedom to make decisions based on conscience whether it be religious or just simply based on your own reasoning.

We are already seeing a greater push in schools with multiple sexualities curriculum, cross dressing days, pretend weddings where boys and girls are encouraged to choose members of the same sex to ‘marry’ and even exercises where young girls are encouraged to share a lesbian kiss. Also there appears to be a new push towards norming statutory rape and pedophilia with Hollywood on the forefront with Steven Speilberg elevating the status of an underage lesbian movie at Cannes where girls of 15 have a 10 minute sexual encounter that is indistinguishable from porn. Also the Liberace special on HBO seems to have no problem with the fact that his young lover was 16 when the 40 year old Liberace began his relationship. MSNBC has been trying to turn another case where a 18 year old girl had sex with a 14 year. It seems that all the things we feared are coming true. Even the Same sex sex assaults in the military have spiked with the advent of DADT just as pre repeal suggested.

We live in a country in denial with far too many people who are just plain ignorant of the history and goals of gay activists. They confuse their gay friend or relative with the militate gay activist as if they are one and the same and they are not.

Doesn’t seem that odd to me. I think this type of aberration is the norm in third world and communist countries.

It’s certainly the norm in the People’s Republic of Minnesota, whose Politburo (governor and legislature) is Democrat-controlled.

It still has John Piper, pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church who just recently retired. That’s about it for Walter Mondale’s home state.
