Report: Tebow’s Camp Says NFL Career Might Be Done
CBS ^ | 05/31/2013

The NFL might have seen its last bit of Tebowing.

A new report claims that some of those closest to Tim Tebow have suggested that the unemployed quarterback’s NFL career is likely done. ESPN’s David Fleming reports that members of Tebow’s own camp privately told him that his days in the league are “probably over.”

LOL! Tebow would never make a team in Canada - all they do is pass.

In the 2013 NFL, someone with Stewart’s skills would fare vastly better.

I'd argue "Stewart's skills." That statement itself is as close to an oxymoron as one can get.

We're just not going to agree on this one is all.... I still remember the Chicago Bear's failed attempt with the same Kordell Stewart experiment which was a miserable failure. (The fact the Bears signed him turned this life-long Bears fan into a Green Bay Pakers fan literally overnight. Tough to be a Packers fan living in the Chicago area, but I do it.)

Which was evidence that the NFL isn’t a good place for him.

God has a new purpose for him—that is all. We have not seen the end of Tebow.

Amen!

Can anyone who follows the game better than I do explain why his half-season and playoff record in Denver doesn't make him an "NFL-level QB"?

Because there was a lot of luck involved in that record. Tebow is a lot like another Florida QB, Rex Grossman. Grossman took the Seminoles to major bowls, was runner up for the Heisman, was drafted first round by the Bears, started his second year, and led the Bears to the Super Bowl. But Grossman was like the little girl with the little curl right in the middle of her forehead. When he was good, Rex was very, very good. But when he was bad he was horrid. And he was horrid a lot. A lot of his wins, like Tebow's wins, were due to the team effort and not outstanding performance by the QB.

Tebow's inaccuracies as a passer are well known. But his shortcomings go deeper than that. He lacks feel for the game. He lacked concentration; coaches would give him a series of plays to run during the next Denver possession and he'd be asking them again what they wanted a few minutes later. Tebow showed little talent for reading defenses. He almost never audibled and in his 11 starts he was flagged for delay of game 7 times, far more than any other QB and another indicator of his confusion in the huddle. But according to accounts from the Denver coaches, Tebow's major shortcoming is being unable to admit he has those shortcomings. So he's not prepared to change. Tebow is a very good man and by all accounts a tremendous leader. But he has not shown that he can put that leadership to work as a quality QB. He's just missing those intangibles that make up an NFL quarterback.

If that makes you feel better, then good for ya. But, you’re not convincing anyone with it.

47.9% completions, a five game streak with 10 or less completions a game, a very bad INT to TD ratio. The fact is Tebow’s ONLY positive stat is his W-L record, and when you take into account that the defense shaved 14 1/2 point off their average allowed it shows that isn’t really just him (when a team wins a game their starting QB only completed 2 passes in it’s generally in SPITE of the QB not because of). Most of his stats are in the bottom 3rd of the league, some are in the bottom 10th. He’s just not all that. Add in the cult that follows him around and the distraction that creates, and there’s just not a lot of reason for anybody to pick him up.

It doesn’t matter who brings the circus, the circus is there and coaches hate distractions. And the media didn’t give him his stats, they stink all by his actions.

Stewart failed in the NFL because he lacked the consistency to be an every down QB. He would have flashes of brilliance, and then streaks of crap. He should have been a starting receiver and occasional gadget QB.

It’s good that you brought up Alex Smith. But you didn’t pay attention to what really happened. The “plan” Harbaugh clearly had for Smith was to keep him in there long enough to train his replacement. He drafted Kaepernick, had him go through camp, put him in a couple of games, and when Smith got hurt put him in permanently, Smith came back from injury to the bench. And now they jettisoned him and KC, a team that’s DESPERATE for a QB picked him up. He never flourished, he survived until his replacement was trained.

Tebow has had plenty of chances. His stats stink. And there was practice time. If he was impressing on the practice field he’d be starting, he didn’t, so he didn’t.

All the more really good reasons to not waste my time with anything NFL.

When Tom Landry left, so did I.

There are a lot of really good things to do with time besides waste it on a game that is really no longer a game.

He could just agree to play tight end, or full back and likely play in the NFL. The kid can’t throw. And if you can’t throw you can’t play quarterback in the NFL. It is really that simple.

BUMP to your post.

I hope he gets an opportunity to play somewhere, it's hard to believe another team won't want to pick him up. He has been is a consistent winner wherever he has played (he didn't play for the Jets), from what I gather he has always been admired and spoken of well by his team mates.

Even if he doesn't play another down his life has been a success. If he doesn't play another down he'll continue winning in whatever he does. Character is destiny.

Is the NFL about stats or about winning? To bad NFL teams have admitted it IS about the circus, not about the stats.

As for Smith, he was given a system- and a chance- to succeed. He proved he could win. SF just got a better deal out of it with an heir, not unlike Young/Montana. Imagine where Alex Smith would be today if teams had listened to the alleged 'experts' 4 years ago... he'd be holding a clip board, or worse.

As for plenty of chances, how many full seasons has Tebow started for a team? I'll wait...

In that case I owe you an apology.

*I apologize for getting defensive about it.*

I considered your post in the context of other posts you've made and supposed that you were making the point to me that I hadn't found anything about Coach Dungy et al telling the guy to tone *himself* down because they hadn't. I wasn't aware of that either way.

Speaking of Coach Dungy, Kurt Warner, Kitna... don't recall EVER hearing of them, or any other Christians in the NFL, being discriminated against for their faith. The problem with Tebow, in my POV, is that it's not about Jesus, it's about Tebow. (It took me all day to think about that.)

Hey, speaking of Christian QB's, keep an eye on our own Landry Jones, who was drafted by the Steelers back in April. Maybe he'll play backup to big Ben for a couple of years and then get the start in 2015 or so.

“LOL! Tebow would never make a team in Canada - all they do is pass.”

OTOH, many USA-type CFLers(particularly ex-CFLers) consider the Canadian game “a track-meet”. We’ve had some amazing QBs of all types, including my boyhood hero - Joe Kapp!

Granted, up here it’s more of a “run for your life” offence. ;^)

Both. Because with a 53 man roster and 22 starter winning is a group effort. So not all wins say the same thing about certain players. When a QB completes only 2 passes in an entire game, nobody in the NFL is going to give him credit for that win, they’ll give the credit to the defense that held the other team down.

The “system” Smith was given was hand the ball off a lot and hope you don’t wind up in 3rd and long. His “success” lead to them leading the league in FGs and having the worst red zone percentage in the league. Which is why they hired a replacement, and when that replacement proved he was ready Smith was replaced. It’s actually quite a bit unlike Montana/ Young, in that situation they had a good QB that was getting old and would be heading to “the farm” soon, so they got a replacement. Smith was NEVER a good QB, the most they managed to accomplish with him was to put together a system that didn’t need him to be much more than so-so. And even with his mediocrity his completion percentage is a full 12 points higher than Tebow.

Tebow was in the league for 3 years. He got to practice, he got to show his skills to coaches, and those skills did not impress people enough to make him a starter for most of his run. That was his chance. Not everybody gets to start. Lots of guys spend their career on the bench. Matt Leinart never got to start any full seasons either, and his completion percentage is 10 points better than Tebow. Nobody is crying about him being functionally out of the league.
