Asian movies and TV programs have higher body counts and more graphic violence, with decapitations, torture and gunshot wounds pretty graphically depicted. There's a fair amount of stuff with English subs on Youtube. I've rented my share of these things. Bottom line is that they're not PC about violence in the way we are. The gore being blown out from various body parts was actually pioneered in Asian movies. Check out John Woo's pre-Hollywood output sometime. Hard Boiled and The Killer are somewhat entertaining, although as with most action movies, you do have to put your brain on hold.
So what is the reason that there are so many murders in the States and not in Asia? The availability of weapons in the marketplace?
Probably genetics and culture, with genetics playing a bigger part. Capital punishment influences the culture aspect, with Asian countries generally executing criminal homicide offenders at a higher rate, relative to the number of such crimes. However, the significant % of blacks stateside is probably the primary factor spiking the homicide rate. Blacks simply commit all classes of crimes, non-violent and violent alike, at a much higher rate than non-blacks. Stateside, blacks commit criminal homicide at a rate 10x of non-Hispanic whites.
An additional factor is the introduction of the welfare state. It used to be that everyone had to work in order to pay for food and shelter. Great Society programs gave a lot of borderline types the ability to get life's basic necessities without working. So they branched out into petty and major crime, abetted by revolving door justice introduced by liberals convinced that society was to blame for the unlawful acts committed by criminals.
So are you saying, not enough capital punishment?
On a per capita basis, executions are running 1/8 the rate of what they used to be, and the time from trial to execution is 7x-8x what it used to be. Per capita homicides are way up. While correlation doesn't prove causation, it certainly suggests it.
And the savage tribal @holes wonder why the epithets refuse to fade.

The erosion of the WASP ethic (work, family) is the #1 factor as far as I’m concerned; it was deliberately destroyed by those who felt marginalized or threatened by it, and it is most obviously absent in the urban toilets. The WASPs themselves failed to convey it to following generations, to the point where the mainline Protestant churches have become twisted fantasies the don’t resemble Christianity as preached by Jesus at all (with permissive attitudes towards divorce, abortion, homosexuality). Fundamentalists and evangelicals still champion true Christian values, and the Catholic Church officially never strayed from them (while the message has been watered down by those in the hierarchy who have lost their faith), but these groups have been marginalized themselves to a point where they no longer play much of a role on the national level.

The only reason ours even make the paper is because they are involved in accidents or falling asleep at the wheel in the middle of an intersection at 10 pm (in a very populated area). Our towns try to sweep this stuff under the rug, but some things they can’t hide.

Sorry, but that’s driving a lot of this. Hopefully the young people have ample time to see that Obamanomics holds nothing for them; they were duped once on a grand scale (in 2008), less so in 2012, and hopefully by 2014 they can play a role in reversing this. I wonder how long long these people can watch commercials advertising things they can never buy with their McJobs’ salaries, watching parents play with infants they’ll never have, before they really get p!ssed off.
As a Conservative all I can say is that the Church and organized Christianity has bottomed out. It no longer serves as the epicenter for values. It’s worse in Europe!
Add to this the scandals and it has lost (by its own hand) the multitudes to “American Idol” and the like.
Conservative Christians must try to change or “rebrand” themselves into a belief system that is more flexible yet aligned to the core values.
Jews? Another story altogether. Those that have dropped Judaisms core values and supplanted them with the magic words, “Justice” and “Change” are lost as well...
You just have more faith in young people than I do. They have demonstrated twice that they have no business in a voting booth.
I’m a non-”Anglo-Saxon” and non-Protestant, but I can appreciate the contributions the WASPs gave us; this country wouldn’t have been founded by any other group (see former non-WASP European colonies to the south of us for examples). People of faith (regardless of which faith) are increasingly estranged from those who have lost it.
