SO? Proves that you can be a Senator and senile at the same time.

John McCain already proved that.

>> Thinking more inside the box, the Republican that Christie should appoint is former Congressman Mike Ferguson, a Catholic who is quite conservative by NJ standards (and is a bona-fide pro-lifer) and who represented a central NJ district for like 10 years in the 2000s. <<

Hmmm. He's fairly bland, but given the slim pickings we have in NJ, I agree Ferguson would probably be the best choice for someone who can both hold the seat AND will vote reliably conservative. NJ freepers should start floating his name prominently. As a bonus, Ferguson is only 42, and this might actually have legs since it seems he has a history with Christie:

-----------------------------
Ferguson co-chaired New Jersey Governor Chris Christie’s victorious 2009 campaign, and after the election served as Chairman of the Treasury Subcommittee for Christie’s transition team.[18][19] Christie later nominated Ferguson to be a board member of the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority; Ferguson's nomination was approved March 10, 2011 by the Democratic-controlled New Jersey Senate Judiciary Committee and March 21, 2011 by the full Senate.
--------------------------------------

>> he's not going to run for anything as a Democrat. If there was any question, the saga of Arlen Specter should convince any Republican with with half a brain who had an idle fantasy about switching of how the 'rats treat turncoats. <<

I doubt Christie is going to run for anything as a RAT as well, but "look what happened to Arlen Specter" is not a good argument. It didn't stop Chafee from switching to RAT in RI just last week, in order to try and save his career. RINOs will be RINOs. More concern is Christie would actually appoint a RAT "out of respect for the party the voters elected to that seat".. blah blah blah... but I think that's unlikely too since he knows it would cause a huge backlash from Republicans when he runs for re-election. The one scenario that is a major cause for concern is if he appoint a scumbag RINO to the seat. Tom Kean Sr. would be worthless in the Senate and only serve as a seatwarmer anyway (so it doesn't matter if he can "hold the seat") and the thought of Whitman in the Senate makes me ill. Mark Kirk would have a new buddy to help him provide "bipartisan" support for Obama.

Good. One less socialist/communist in office.

There is nothing good to say about him and I don’t change from a freedom loving conservative to a whiner, weak-kneed hypocrite to follow the crowd when someone you hate passes away.

As far as I am concerned it is one less of the enemy of freedom.

Yes, one less commissar to deal with; no tears or sympathy here. He’s gone to his judgment; good riddance - these people are dangerous, and the havoc they’ve wrought is permanent.

So.... how long will he stay in office, and continue to vote ?

As long as he's useful, Obama and Christie will keep him around.

Good riddance to a foul, vulgar poor excuse for a man.

If Christie really wants to reinforce his “independent” credentials he’ll appoint a Dem or some independent who is in reality a closet Dem (like the Senator from Maine). What he won’t do is appoint a conservative. Hey, maybe he’ll appoint the first muslim Senator, his buddy Mohammad Qatanani.

In all the years I’ve been following politics I have never loathed, despised, or hated a politician as much as Frank Lautenberg. Lautenberg was the “forefather” of one of the worst movements this country has ever seen. “The Nanny State.”
With Lautenberg originating the “no smoking” on airplanes some 20 years ago, he started {slowly but surely} taking away smokers rights, {especially cigarettes}.......We may have “our Bloombergs”, “our west coast libs,”our fascist politicians” and “and our health nazis”...but none would have ever appeared on the scene with out the “grand daddy of the nanny state!” Good Riddance........Frank!

I found pneumonia to be painful. I flat lined from it (and H1N1) Oct 22 2009. They brought me back but I do know what it is like. It’s a weird feeling to be looking down at yourself watching all the action from 5-6 above.

Condolences and RIP.

To slightly change topic, what in hell is Dem MD Gov Owe’Malley doing ordering MD AND US flags at half-mast for this foreign senator?

I am sick to death of flags half-masted for every damn thing here. We look like a bunch of sniveling wimps!

And not a moment too soon. That worthless SOB was one of the key players in the ongoing destruction of our fundamental rights.

Nailed it.

I can only say that another one that wants to be in lock step with this monster in ‘our’ White House going to his death is one more enemy that we don’t have to defeat. May his liberal soul burn in Hell.
