In fairness to the Republican voters, he should pick a Republican. They all know the laws and yet the Dems voted for an old coot with one foot in the grave. They get what they deserve. Who was the Republican who lost to SenL anyway? Pick him. He came in second for the job.

“Would you feel the same way if it were a Dem governor selecting someone to fill a position formerly held by a Republican?”

The appointment power is vested in the governor. NJ could have just as easily required a mandatory referendum or a selection by one or both houses of the state legislature. When the people elected the governor of their state, they elected him knowing that he had the power to fill vacancies at his discretion. He should pick whoever he sees fit to pick.

Logic would lead me to expect a Dem to replace any vacancy with a Dem.

How does appointing a Dem lackey that will vote in lock step with the neo-marxist gangsters we have running D.C. do anything to defend the Constitution, preserve our Republic, or advance the cause of Liberty?

Our country is being systematically destroyed by a collectivist mob that has no concern for individual rights or minority opinion.

“After we win this election, it’s our turn. Payback time. Everyone not with us is against us and they better be ready because we don’t forget. The ones who helped us will be rewarded, the ones who opposed us will get what they deserve. There is going to be hell to pay. Congress won’t be a problem for us this time. No election to worry about after this is over and we have two judges ready to go.”
- Valerie Jarrett

With what has happened with Fast and Furious, Benghazi, the IRS abuses, AP/Media wiretaps, etc, the focus should not be on "fairness" but on making this second term a lame duck by grinding their machine to a halt.

Obstruct, delay, resist their agenda while exposing their abuses and corruption is what needs to be the order of the day.

Krispy Kreme would appoint MF Corzine in a Newark minute, if he thought it would help him politically.

I hope he appoints a Dem. Then we will not have to worry about Crispy running in 2016. He won’t have a prayer.

Here is what Christie is really thinking:
I’ve got this thing and it’s f—ing golden,
and, uh, uh, I’m just not giving it up for f—-in’ nothing.

It doesn’t matter much....he could appoint a conservative ( if there are any left in NJ),

Hey! It's a lonely battle here but there are one or two!

Perhaps they should just have a special election and let the voters decide. That would be the best way to fulfill the constitution.

If the majority of voters had voted Republican in the last election for this particular office, then yes. But that wasn't the case.

Law states the governor chooses the next senator and he was duly elected to do that job. He has no obligation to choose a democrat and in fact, a democrat governor would never appoint a republican. Get over it. Christie owes his voters a decent pick.

So just because Democrats would do something means it justifies Republicans doing it?

I never said he had any kind of legal obligation to do so.

a democrat governor would never appoint a republican.

So just because a Democrat does something justifies Republicans doing it?
