Very few Asian countries are thrilled about this idea. When I lived in South Korea, the South Koreans hated Japan more than North Korea.

They should allow japan this, but under the condition that they HAVE to build their military weapons as Big Giant Robots and that they have to piloted by angsty teenagers.

Just for laughs...

Oh and the only weapons these giant robots can use are just blown up versions of handguns and rifles...

Given the North Korean nuclear program development, and the rising assertiveness of China...one could easily predict this was coming.

Personally, in that environment, even though we stand to help them and defend them, I cannot blaim the Japanese for moving in this direction...particularly with someone like Obama at the helm in the U.S.

I don't blame Japan one bit.

They have a kook off their western shore and the powerhouse of China staring them in the face.

The Japan of today is not the Japan of the 30s and 40s so they have the right to defend themselves the same way we do.

Believe me, I hated the Japanese for the longest time for Pearl Harbor and the Bataan death march and for sucking up to Hitler.

Japan is now a clone of the USA and it will ever be like it was 70 years ago.

For the past 50 years, Japan's defenses have been geared towards monsters.

I hope this won't lead to a Mothra resurgence.

“Very few Asian countries are thrilled about this idea. When I lived in South Korea, the South Koreans hated Japan more than North Korea.”

Then South Korea should have done more to take care of the North Korea ‘problem’ than they did. The first step is NOT building factories in that country.

Japan has a long term demographic problem, and Koreans are going to the beneficiaries of declining birth rates as the country continues to have too many elderly and not enough Japanese babies. There is a lesson here for white Americans toponder.
