Randy “Duke” Cunningham, the former North County congressman convicted of taking bribes while in office, should be a free man today.
His 100-month sentence completed, the 71-year-old Navy ace is due to be released from a halfway house in New Orleans. Attempts to reach him for comment were unsuccessful, but he’s said in various letters over the years that he plans to live in Arkansas, where he has family.

As a felon, Cunningham is prohibited from owning a gun. Last year, he asked the court to restore his firearm rights but was rebuffed.
Mr Cunninghams name is on a “list” of prohibited persons. Mr Cunningham has paid his debt to society, and should be free of the felon title as well as his individual rights being restored. I bring this to your attention so that Freepers in general are aware of the movement within the government to restrict individual rights to the maximum. Specifically where second amendment rights are concerned. How about mental health lists also containing prohibited persons, and those committing misdemeanor spouse abuse. Be very very careful about appearing on lists of any kind. Contemplated your medical history lately the list of questions one is asked to answer is more akin to an IRS intrusion than a medical history.

This is the rightful consequences that real Republicans are willing to meet out to corrupt scum.

Cunningham was the Congressman for my Congressional District. I volunteered to do some work at his local office. His staffers seemed to act very standoffish and somewhat hostile, so I decided to not go back to do any more volunteer work. The whole situation just didn’t feel right. Decades later, we discovered there was good reason to suspect there was something wrong going on. The bottomline is that Randy Cunningham earned distinction as a naval airman, and then he proceeded to betray his citizen constituents and the Republic. It should always be remembered that being a war hero or other prominent person does not give a person the right to betray fellow citizens. Benedict Arnold was one of the key people whose bravery made the American Revolutionary War victory possible, yet he remains a traitor who earned the death penalty for betraying the very cause he made possible.
Bet you can answer that question with only one hand with the end of the thumb and first finger touching one another.
