But under Common Core, those activist teachers will be able to excuse their behavior by simply saying, “Common Core made me do it.”
Indiana lawmakers have prudently hit the “pause” button on further implementation of Common Core. They’re going to take the next year or so to examine these obvious flaws in the new learning standards.
Legislators in Wisconsin have followed suit, and Michigan lawmakers are expected to de-fund Common Core until an impact study can be completed.

Children can’t read, can’t write, they can’t add or subtract without a calculator, but they’ll be good little worker bees for the communists.

The real reason for the “new” curriculum to begin with.
Suppression of the actual history of the United States, or emphasis on the policy failures and collapses, is the real agenda. The territory once known as “the United States of America” is being given, if not Third World status, at least a much diminished role in world politics going forward.

I’m going to research further but my understanding of CC was it covered reading and math. I’ve not heard of a standard/criterion related to any social sciences. Of course, reading applies universally across every course so that may be the route used by these classroom socialists.
I got an E-Mail from Jeff Flake (R?-AZ) saying he supported CC and how great it was. Looks like he’s McCain lite.
Is that sarcasm? Texas has a whole different brand of activist teaching called CSCOPE. Look into that one.
That "CORE" is what America became great from; NOT from "do you own thing at someone's expense".

Thank God I teach the constitution and correct history at home on top of whatever they learn elsewhere. Luckily our private school is faith based and does a quit nice job.
Not anymore. Texas legislature scrapped it two weeks ago.
It was ushered in like NObamacare (in the backroom deals) and the citizens never wanted it. Since our legislature only meets every two years for only 4-6 months (by law, wished the US did something like that) it takes a while to undo some stuff.
Be vigilent. I’ve suspected for a while the move to wireless devices for textbooks wasn’t necessarily an expense saving means. Merely a means to keep parents mostly blissfully unaware of the content their kids are studying.
And you know the yankees making the money in CSCOPE aren’t going to sit idly by while their income is cut.
The example given was an English class. CC requires those classes to integrate other topics into classroom work, including ‘historical documents.’
Given that the kids are already studying the Constitution and Declaration in history class (or should be - my kids read both under our implementation of CC), I can’t blame an English teacher for wanting to choose something else; the students will only pay so much attention to things the 2nd/3rd/4th time they’re covered. The article made it a point to mention that the teacher did NOT inject her policial beliefs into the classroom work.
In fact, the article doesn’t provide a single example of teachers using CC to inject their personal views - it only says “you know they will.” It’s pretty weak sauce in that respect, because it happens with regularity on both sides of the policial debate with or without Common Core. Go after teachers who DO such things—regardless of their political leanings—but random indictments without evidence are just an attempt to manufacture outrage.
The reality is that every school, and every teacher, differs significantly. Our job as parents is to be involved, to know what’s going on in our kids’ classrooms, and to raise concerns if/when they arise - but NOT to make mountains out of molehills or buy into manufactured outrage with no supporting evidence.
On several threads, I've tried to inject rational discussion of Common Core based on evidence, and it's never worked out.
I challenge any Freeper to examine the actual Common Core Standards, and find a SINGLE ideological objection. Just one.

Yes, there are real problems with teachers/districts injecting political bias into their curriculum. This is not new. It happened before Common Core, and it will happen after.
The problem is that these teachers/districts are never held accountable, because conservatives are always chasing the nameless, faceless Boogie Man. We don't want to believe that our own neighbors are responsible.
You already know more about Common Core than most. The standards cover Reading/Language Arts and Math. However, in Grades 6-12 the Literacy Standards which are part of R/LA do expand to Social Studies, Science and Technology, and Writing.
Here are some particularly "inflammatory" Social Studies literacy standards for grades 6-8:
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RH.6-8.6 Identify aspects of a text that reveal an author’s point of view or purpose (e.g., loaded language, inclusion or avoidance of particular facts).
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RH.6-8.8 Distinguish among fact, opinion, and reasoned judgment in a text.
Yeah... we don't want kids to learn how to do that.

In a way, Jeb Bush is more dangerous than Obama. At least we KNOW Obama is an open, proud Marxist and can resist him accordingly.
The problem with RINOs is the lack of opposition from our own side of the aisle which is on display from the FReepers who throw a fit about us slapping John McCain around.
