He just held a news conference.
He could have appointed someone to serve until 2014. Instead, the election will be October 16, 2014. The primaries will be August 13.
He would not comment on who he would appoint to serve until then.
Video when available.
I dont understand all the nuances of NJ politics, so hopefully readers can add local color in the comments.
Christie splits baby: D's get speedy special elex (could have waited 18 mo),GOP likely gets placeholder Sen & no Booker on ballot in Nov
Guy Benson (@guypbenson) June 4, 2013
Christie's decision is all about 2013 reelect, and about seeming populist/bipartisan about his course of action ("voice" "choice")
Robert Costa (@robertcostaNRO) June 4, 2013
Christie says waiting 10 days to appoint & then having the special in Nov would've been "playing politics." Well then
Scott Conroy (@RealClearScott) June 4, 2013
Christie says he'll fill the seat "on the merits." won't commit to Republican but "I do have a preference for one party over the other

Typical spineless northeastern RINO
Thus guaranteeing anObama Sycophant without all the muss and fuss and blame stuff...
Christie was flooded with donations from Dems ,is this what they bought ,a special election
Christie is not a Republican now, and never was. A Republican would appoint a Republican who might have a chance to win the seat, and then work for his election in 2014.
He just gave the seat to the RATs. Gutless lard ass.
More like a jellyfish.
he was for combining and eliminating unnecessary elections until it affects him personally
Ten bucks says that Krispy Kreme runs...as an “Independent”...in ‘16.And late on election night, when he realizes that his move has allowed the former Twelfth Lady to win with 43% of the vote, he’ll smile quietly and order a two pound hunk of prime rib from room service in celebration.
Correction: it'll be this (2013) October.
Guess who will be voting “present” when it comes to his election...
All conservatives in NJ should do the same.
One has to admire the tenacity of democRATS to do what they have to in order to put one of their own in the Senate.
What do Republicans do when they get a chance? They fold

I remember it. They violated the law by doing that. But they did not care and nothing was ever done about it.
That Christie, she could of appointed a comservative!
Actually, the Dems won’t like this because there chances would be greater in 2014.
There is a reason they call it the STUPID party. Calling ann coulter...
Jersey needs to recall Christie. He’s an abomination.
