I was not implying someone would be killed to harvest their lung: What I meant was, what other would-be lung donation RECIPIENT will now be denied, since the girl will now get the lung they would have gotten?
Ok.
The whole issue of the transplant is moot if a suitable donor is not found, not everyone on the list finds someone.
There are so few donors, it maybe moot anyway.
Who's saying some other recipient will get denied?
The problem here is that government is involved, not natural order.
Why shouldn’t this girl have the same chance as anyone else? All she was asking for was to get on the list like other people are. She’s not guaranteed to get a transplant.
That would be true no matter who got the lung. There are a lot of people needing them and few being donated.
You are right again!
The judge ruled she should be put on an adult lung donor list. She doesn't knock someone else off the list she is added at the bottom and gets a lung when all others above her gets their lung, assuming the others have a match before she does. Since a person can survive on one lung, many people donate lungs to their relatives, not all donors are dead.
I don’t think you understand the situation. The little girl has been on the list but because of the rules in place now SHE has been bumped down the list. The rules say that a person under 12 cannot be given adult lungs unless there are no adults on the list. If I went on the donor list today, I would get lungs before this critically ill little girl had a chance for them. All her parents are doing is advocating for the rules to be changed. IOW, she has been on the list for a while but other people have been getting the lungs that should have been hers had it not been for the ‘rules’. She keeps getting bumped to the bottom by adults and she doesn’t have much more time.
