'Sanctuary cities' for immigration barred from federal law enforcement funding

WASHINGTON (CBS5) - An amendment that bars cities that do not fully assist with federal immigration enforcement, also known as "sanctuary cities," from funding has been approved by the House of Representatives.

The amendment was added to the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act of 2014.

Rep. Matt Salmon of Mesa, R-Arizona 5th district, offered the amendment during a debate on the bill, and his amendment was adopted by a voice vote.

Salmon emphasized the growing problem of sanctuary cities.

"The reality is that sanctuary cities contribute to an ever bigger illegal immigration problem and should not benefit from federal law enforcement funding," he said. "These funds should be reserved for those cities that actively enforce the law."

Always found it amusing that cities could defy Federal law with this sanctuary business or openly sell and promote drugs like marijuana in defiance of existing law. States legalize gay marriage in defiance of DOMA. Somehow these states are allowed to defy Federal law which should take precedence. However if a state passes an anti-abortion law it is quickly nullified.

Didn’t Deval actually declare all of Massachusetts an “insane asylum”? That would make more sense, from him.

"Sanctuary city" is an oxymoron because it derives from the medieval practice of anyone going into a church is immune from prosecution.

These cities have nothing to do with God.

so glad you brought that item up...

Patrick just continued what a former MASS gov had started...

Willard was gov from 2002 BEFORE Deval patrick

while Willard was gov he had sanctuary cities and wouldnt allow LEO to arrest illegal aliens

he also KNOWINGLY hired illegal aliens to do the grounds of the gov mansion for several years...

even after the local newspaper did an article complaining...

He also said that the AMNESTY Bill should be passed...

Willard said “We cant send they all back” because he wanted NONE sent back

and

“We must find a path to citizenship”

Personal mail (FReepMail) is a most excellent way to settle personal disagreements. It is often a courtesy of the offended party to offer a settlement in private.

Some of the most nasty, crime filled areas. Painesville, OH is a a sh**hole. Denton, TX isn’t far behind.

So is this a done deal? Is any actual federal funding really being cut?
