And there was a time when they thought it was okay for one man to own another or that women shouldn't be allowed to vote. Sometimes they got it wrong. This bit with marriage was one of those times. It's not like inviting the vampire into house that is marriage was the first or only thing people screwed up over the past couple centuries.
