My homeschooled kids are very politically active. My boys couldn’t wait to be able to vote and my 17 year-old daughter was bummed that should couldn’t vote for me this spring when I ran for town office, but she campaigned and ran a refreshment booth at one of our events. By the next presidential election, we’ll have 5 strongly conservative voters in our house.

They do dual-enrollment here in Pasadena CA too. If the student gets a B in a class, he gets an A as a high schooler. Many homeschoolers, however, just enter the Jr College at 15 or 16 and get on with college. Our homeschooler did. Our homeschool ‘umbrella school’ issued him a diploma/ no problem. Age 18 is not a magic age for that.

I keep on wondering whether Snowden, the whistleblower is a homeschooler.

He is taking a tack that is similar to the Uncle Eric series.

I am totally lost as to what you just said......

We went to a church here in MD for a little while that meets in a school gym. I was really struck by how prison-like it is. What a dead, lifeless structure for a kid to spend his/her time in.

You can home school your kids with a library card. There are many online resources that are free to use.

Standby for a new federal law coming down the pike which states, “All children under the age of 18 years MUST be educated in a public that would mean government) schools.”

And thus one of the planks in the Communist Manifesto is fulfilled.

Everyone talks about the ‘sacrifice’ of home schooling or the ‘sacrifice’ of being an at-home mother. What, exactly, is being sacrificed? A second fancy car, dinner out every week, a high-end summer vacation or camp? In most instances, the ‘sacrifice’ is material. It’s rarely the roof over the family’s head.

Families that don’t want the sacrifice to be their kids might want to look at making a go of a single income and what can be shorn from their lifestyle. They might be surprised at what they find.

We had a Latino woman in our homeschool group several years ago. She was in the process of learning English (she had already learned Portuguese while her family was living in Brazil; she is a native Spanish speaker) and needed help teaching her kids English grammar. One of our mom’s tutored her son in grammar while she stepped in and helped our group’s Spanish class. It was very beneficial for everyone involved.

I'm familiar with Maybury's books - could you elaborate about what you are seeing in this situation?

The Maybury books are about freedom and freedom’s loss and encroaching fascism. About how fascism is under the surface in the states. It is libertarian and advocates the Swiss solution which was recounted in V.

Ask her to give it a try for a year, Calvert is a good system.

They have been doing "school in a box" longer then anyone. For someone who is a bit uncertain the comfort of knowing that she will get everything she needs in a package might help give her the push she needs.

After a year if she finds it beyond her abilities then you can try something else.

FWIW......

My wife and I HS'd our two kids....from K-12. This started back in the late 80's in CA...and we finished up in OK.

It was a labor of love....

My wife of course did the most of it...I was just the Principal!! Ha!!

Anyhoo...along the way my wife wrote a children's book ( The book is a good read for adults too!! )....and has a curriculum that I think HS'ers would enjoy.

Here's her info....

www.meganmeansauthor.com

www.facebook.com/SoMuchTheBetter

She just started blogging...and getting her stuff out there.

FRegards,
