Robert A Heinlein [RAH 1907-88] - "In a mature society, 'civil servant' equates to 'civil master'!" [Time Enough for Love, 1973] This SF Author, dead these past 25 years, keeps popping back up with the prescient views.

When these civil service workers work hand-in-hand with the politicos, and labor groups, the chain of responsibility and 'value for money' concepts get lost in the weeds. The larger the government structure, the easier it is to hide these gross improprieties, yet the libdiots are always in favor of an increasing government because they cannot bear the lack of support AND CONTROL!

Another RAH quote ..."There is no worse tyranny than to force a man to pay for what he does not want merely because you think it would be good for him." [The Moon is A Harsh Mistress, 1966] - Obamacare?

A public sector worker, taking no vacation for 20 years. LOL. There is no way. More likely she was like the former director of the Metra here in Chicago. He had 11, that’s right 11 weeks of vacation a year. And we wonder why the states are broke. I notice your name indicates another public union leech.

How many ticket rate increases have happened on BART since this woman got into trouble?

BART is also now charging for parking in their lots to take the mass transit & REDUCE hte number of cars in SF proper.

Such parking used to be free!!!!

MASS TRANSIT!!! Just what all of us need-—to be herded like sheep & charged for same!!

Four weeks (150+ hours) per year and she took no vacation time for twenty years???

Maybe she was "sick" a lot. Funny how they don't mention how much sick leave she took. Bound to catch the flu at least once in 20 years.

Just another overcompensated public employee. Nothing to see here.

However, regarding payment for unused vacation time, I favor it.

Many people have lost vacation time because the demands of the job leave little time for vacation. Given that paid vacation is touted as a benefit by most companies for salaried people, that benefit should be paid.

I have worked nights, weekends, sometimes around the clock with no extra compensation & no complaints. I've slept on filing cabinets next to the monitor so I could hear an error warning beep. I've been called in from vacation & called while on vacation overseas for consultation.

I'd say I'm owed either my vacation time or being paid for it. If not, then I'll find a better job working for better people who pay for the benefits promised.

So does mine. You want to call me a public sector leech too?

My point was that if she had worked for the fedgov, she never could have accumulated that much vacation time. She would have to have taken it along the way, or lost it.

What she did was cash in her vacation hours at her career highest salary rate, hours that were largely accumulated at lower pay rates. That was certainly a good investment on her part.

She may also have earned considerable compensatory time, which she used in place of vacation hours, to make sure her payable-in-cash vacation account was never touched.

Is there any doubt why the state of Kalifornia and many of its municipalities are broke?
