Of all the sad stories that have happened to this great country, this must be the saddest of all. Bernie Goetz - despite the bad press - never spent a day in jail. That was the 1980s when the country still had some common sense. Poor, poor man.

Yes he did, he spent more than a year in jail. Not for self defense but they got him on having an unregistered hand gun.

It's been a about 50+ years the last time New York City had any thing resembling common sense.
